Drills and resource slots

Postby Racetyme » Thu Oct 27, 2005 4:10 am

I ran a quick forum search on this but I couldn't find it. Do drills take up the resource gathering slots of an area?

Fantastic. I assume harvesters and the like are all coded the same?

What a great thread...

But yes, things like drills and harvesters in fact produce the resource like a machine. They do not affect the resource slots at all. They are similar to a furncae in coding... except they must be built outside in a location with the prequisite resource... in that you set up a project and it prodcues the resource.

That was quite garbled, but hopefully someone can decipher it.

..and consquently they don't have a random +/- 20% yield as does a normal resource gathering project - what you ask for is what you get

I have discovered that from trial and error. I'm quite happy about it though, I hate losing out on nearly three days worth of hematite because the deviation got the maximum 20%-.

Well, you could set the project for a portion of the amount you want and have it repeat. Unless you're especially unlucky (or lucky!), that should keep you a lot closer to the amount you were aiming for.

Yeah, but I like to do big projects. I get more accomplishment out of finishing them than lots of small projects.

Can't argue with that. Even potato farming feels like more of an acomplishment when you work on it for ten straight days. Especially if you only have seven days worth of food.

I've heard they are going to make that into a professional sport actually.

I've heard that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I've had harvesters especially, frequently produce less carrots/potatoes then they say they do/will. For instance, if you work on/initiate a 16kg project, it often makes 12kgs instead. (And no, no one picked up the difference).

Not sure why this happens, I figure it's a bug.

Is it ending up on the ground? If so, some of it is probably rotting.

It is sometimes ending up on the ground and sometimes ending up in an inventory, but having an even 4kgs rot in 1-2 turns/hours?
