For my chars exploring uninhabited islands, they're renaming locations by the day they arrived there.

 I am calling all locations by their proper names. Ladvicitavoi is NOT Alexilad and it will never be. I took the time to learn how to spell Ladvicitavoi and Olipifirovash and all the other silly names. . . . (And I'm going to feel awfully stupid if I spelled them wrong in this post. :o )

Okay, so I suppose that's a CR breach, but I will remember all names OOC. So who's for starting the Society of Cantrian Name Remembrance with me?

I'm calling em what people tell me to call em. LOL As for the SCNR, Sarah...I'm in!
Awkward: Having your phone go off full volume during a funeral.

Even more awkward: Your ringtone being "I Will Survive"

The most awkward: Coming back after a 10+ year hiatus and swearing I'd never come back.

So am I... but if were exploring new lands, I would definitely name the new towns after my charrie.

Skwiddland
Skwiddtown
Skwiddville
Fields of Skwidd
Skwidd's Lakeside

...yeah.

Some ideas are not so bad...

Postby Evelyn » Sat Oct 22, 2005 11:11 pm

I put on my char such a good idea, she said to everybody, let´s point at the paths and if you know to what place it leads, just say it; and she began... This way leads to this "x" place....
Such a good idea ain´t it? 8) Because I sincerely prefer the oldest names than ... Skwiddville :D OOOh just a joke... El_Skwidd my friend.. the only one that talks in the Spanish forum (besides me of course, because I am the queen of the Spanish Forum.... eeeeeeh Viva LatinaGirl)

I called one place Gate hill and people actually accepted that. Now only to tell the people living there that hey, your place has a new name now. :)

I have one character, who, if ever she gets what she wants, will live in Stilllife.

The only unofficial names I've been using are with my mapmaking character, and they're just boring identifiers like [ENE of Stofer Mnts. (s)].

I have seen Quillinoi Gardens renamed the Holy Land of the Gods and Klojt Mountains South named the Empire of the Stone Mountain, so far.

If any of my explorer types run across a location that really truly hasn't been found before ... Then I'll have my characters name in variants of Alexandra, but with a spin on it like my name, so for one that won't happen, something like Agarbonia.
Reality was never my strong point.

In developed areas, the only way really to change the name of a place is to enforce changes to all the old maps throughout a region. There are few if any regional organizations with the power to do so. If I had the energy I'd try to enforce that in the case of New Xanth (Akypor Forest South), but I've more than enough on my plate right now.

Well, the character in one place established himself as a region's leader (there was nobody there to refute that except his people) and no buildings that mentioned any sort of alternative. He did this just before the name change, and so when there is no name to the place, he declares it to be "Place X" and so it is, to all who will ever arrive...

Good for him. He beats the system.
