Destroy Landmarks

Postby Jack Dudeman » Thu Sep 29, 2005 4:24 am

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. If so, I missed it. But, there should be some way to destroy landmarks. Perhaps a five to ten day project involving a sledgehammer for stone ones, or maybe an axe for wooden ones?

Edited for thread title. -rklenseth

Maybe so, maybe not.

Buildings can't be destroyed; why should landmarks? I assume PD will act on any really offensive or stupid landmarks, but otherwise they'll just have to be RPed around, just like stupid buildings.

Don't knock them, they were obviously important enough to someone that they built it in the first place.

Destroying things / buildings / landmarks / etc. is on the ProgD to-do list, but I don't think any programmer is currently working on it ... just be patient :) ...

We sometimes remove offensive names, but very rarely so - our threshold of what is offensive is very high ;) ...

ba-da-bump...

Now we've got mass amnesia wingin it's pretty little way over to us - I think the need for this is a little more pressing...

I don't know any examples myself, but I'm sure there are some, where un-wanted landmarks have been created - and the powers that be have no way of removing them - with amnesia they'll have to keep explaining to any newcomers which is the right landmark to go by...

There is a very distinct difference between buildings and landmarks, and landmarks need to be destructable much, much more than buildings.

And I agree with Farmer... with the impending amnesia, this is more important than ever.

Yeah, destruction of objects is an important thing to implement... but you'll have to be patient.

But, to be sure, you can have multiple landmarks on one location, right?

Yeah, I've seen places with more than one landmark.

You can, but then you have to explain to explain to everyone who goes by that one of them was amde by an annoying newspawn, and, despite their ability to mine kilos of stone with a pick axe, they can't get shot of that little bit of stone over there... ;)

Destroying buildings, landmarks, etc is a great need I believe.. waiting for it as Jos said.

Destroying projects is another need in Cantr, too in my opinion. Very simple even for a bugger beginner to produce 100 silly projects with vulgar or out of RP names, put in them 1 g material each , thus making the Activities search and porjects lists a mesh..

Also, its not a good view to see a primitie smelting furnace in the middle of a large city.. hope we should be able to drag or destroy these

I second the destroying projects suggestion. Maybe we should loose 25% of the raw materials for projects that have a completion of over 10% but we should be able to get rid of the darn things. There's so much wood and other stuff we could salvage that in reality we could just take away and re-use if it wasn't actually being made into something.

Also (or maybe I should start a new thread for this?) I think we should be able to cancel repairs on an item so we can use it if we suddenly need to. e.g. I'm repairing my hammer but someone comes along with something they need making which requires a hammer. Instead of saying "yes I will but it'll take me two days to repair my hammer first" I should be able to cancel the repair and start it again at a later date.

No worries - just be glad you didn't actually create a new thread ;)
