Weren't they planning a system where you couldn't spawn in a town where you already have a character? Such system would be good to have.

But I don't think I'd have any trouble having a child and an adult character in the same town since the chance that those two would be working together or would have similar goals sounds just ridiculous. And you could maybe arrange one to be inside, provided that the town has buildings. (And if it doesn't, it's probably such a small place that the chance of spawning a second character there would be close to none.)

Imagine a two year old assisting in dragging or punching a thief. Cute.

Not with that kind of attitude.

no
I wouldn't play a child
because it just wouldn't appeal - at least not pre-adolescent kids. I can also imagine that it would take a very good role-player to pull it off and be convincing.

I would be sad if my child was RPed by someone like pie. I won't lie, I'd probably cut them out of my will if it was a poorly RPed char just looking for a free ride and trying to spawn into a rich family. I want to adopt the player of my child. :)

Pie is kinda cute... I wouldn't mind playing his momma. Nor for Agar's character, I like challenges - though a troublesome child might get spanked more often than a nice one.

I think if children are implemented, they should be born to a "couple" that wants children, and there should be a waiting list to become one (as there won't be many children probably, due to the action of making one). Cantr females should become pregant and experience neat and crazy effects due to this.

That said, I'd totally play a child.

If kids replace newspawns as the general way new people are added to the game, I will backfire, with "adult" acting children being favored over well-RP'd children.

Only if I absolutey have to will I play a child. I used to play a curious little 6 year old on other roleplay boards. He was fun to play, so long as someone bothered to pay attention to him. That was the true hard part. If I had to play as a kid, I'm fairly sure I'd have 15 neglected and possibly abused children on my character page.

Child abuse and child murder are part of life... definitely not a good part, but a very real part. I think, as crappy as it that possibility is, the aspect of children would add an awesome level of depth to Cantr societies.

I would definitely do my best to play a child character. I don't know how convincing I would be, but I would try. I think it's a function that needs to be implemented, and the success of such a ground-breaking game aspect depends entirely on the player base. Are our players devoted enough to play through a young life and come out with a good spawn with a place in the world? Or are the lazy players, the destructive players, or the just plain bad players going to kill it?

I don't care if children are added, just so long as it remains optional whether you play as one. I can't stress that enough :)

I could play a child; Frankly, I don't think it'd be that hard.. I wouldn't want to though... most likely... I might try it out once just to see how I'd do... but I really am not sure I'd care to... I definitely agree with Fleegle think it should be optional...

I'd be overacting and pissing people off on purpose!

When I was a kid, I didn't know how to be a kid.. And when I grew up, I do act like a kid...

But I sometimes do overact it and piss people off... Guess that's what's gonna happen in Cantr.

I can't see it all working, what if there's more people wanting to roleplay kids than there are Cantr couples wanting kids, or less. Are we going to have unplanned preganancies and/or miscarriages?

I would like the challenge of playing a kid, having a young one myself I think I might be able to do one, but mine woudn't be believeable, not because it would over-react, but because my 4 year old is so grown up for her age.

I dont think I would like a kid though, I can imagine one of my charries liking the idea, but I'm not sure I would like it, but then I don't like some of the things that happen to my characters anyway so *shrug* I guess I'd play it ok.

No problem if you have moree prospective parents than child players. The success of the "malke a baby " project would depend on chance, just like real life or...erm, lockbreaking. The exact probabilitywould depend on the length of the queue And of course there might have to be miscarriages when players deleted their accounts. And the infant mortality rate would be hih of course. I can see players getting realy pissed off with each other over all the wasted child-rearing effort, when the ungrateful little brats die of boredom.

The other way round is trickier. I guess there would just have to b a waiting list. Maybe playrs who are also willing to be parents would get priority on that list, if it got too long?

I'm not sure about the whole idea, though. Nice in thory, but....

I agree that we should have a choice of being spawned instead, but that rather obviates the one big advantage of this idea..limiting the freeedom of those meddlesome newspawns, until they've had a chance to learn a few things and to get a little involved in their new life. Why do Newspawns so often run wild, with no regard at all for the consequences? Because the player has nothing to lose. They've invested nothing in that character yet, and it's no big deal if it gets killed. If starting as an infant, that char would hav learned to value it's life and freedom before it ever had the wherewithall to embark on a crime spree, just like IRL. Then we'd have feewr, but better-rounded criminals, with a genuine lifee-historybehind them. Much better.

Newspawns are annoying, but they are little more than that. They quickly teach us to lock things up and not leave stuff lying on the ground, plus they provide us practice with our weapons. I've come to accept newspawns as a fact of life, and I think making spawning as a child will discourage more players than just the annoying newspawn variety. For those who are actually interested in the Cantr experience, it's nice to be able to jump right in and start behaving as an autonomous individual. It's already hard enough to get a character started without the further limitations of childhood.
In the interests of discouraging the newspawn thief-type, I think other measures would be more appropriate.
