All you people who are saying cantr needs to be more like rl, wake up! Cantr is a game, you should do what will provide the most enjoyment! When was the last time you say a person walk into the middle of your city, drag you off into their sportscar, sudbue you with their broadsword, and drive off without using any gas or anyone at all being awake! IT IS A GAME

Well aside from the shivers I get imagining fixing support issues ....
("Could you move some bodies from that room in in the the building I was in , I'm not sure of it's name, I'm just new in that town , but its about 3 roads on from Happyville ")
... I'm also against the idea until we have a lot more in-game aide memoires - Signage (both road and building) in particular as others have suggested . I can see the rational reasons and I quite understand them but I don't want events page full of the 2nd newspawn of the day being initiated in the ritual of the naming of places . Signs are used in RL to overcome the fact that we don't know our way round a new place so lets have them in Cantr before this is implemented

Towns have landmarks available to them. Locations could have amnesia with little to no effect.
Buildings have no way to identify them. Building names being forgotten would be disaterous, and should not be affected untill there is a way to put a sign on a building. Some large towns have obliette style structures, and remembering what room was what would be a nightmare, and take several DAYS to sort out, if EVER.
Create unmoveable stone and wooden plaques that can only be built inside a building, and then the building can be identified. From the inside, but still identified. Signs on the outside sound much harder to implement than internal plaques.

Reality was never my strong point.

It seems to me that building names shouldn't really be an issue. I've always assumed that buildings had cornerstones or "house plaques" that had the name on it. In real life I can tell someone to meet me at the Grocery Store and they can find a sign on the building that says Grocery Store. Why would we erase buildng names? The names were created by the builders not by a preassigned name like the towns.

Yes to location names, like I said yes before...
Not buildings until there can be signs though...
A couple of questions though -
-would we get warning of the change beforehand?
-if we click on the location name and change the 'dynamic' name to the current, default name of the location we're in - will it be remembered as having been changed from the defualt post-amnesia?
(i.e: if my character in Blojt clicks on Blojt, types in Blojt, and amnesia is introduced, will it still be listed as 'blojt' as the dynamic name has already been changed?)
I'm glad to see it's much more positive this time - I agree with Nick, it was a good change, but it's totally impotent without amnesia

Yes you will be warned
Yes - it is dynamically stored even if the name is unchanged as soon as ou click on the button - (i checked this an hour ago
But remember to remember the destination of paths and roads as well as your current location - or you won't know which way the next town is .
(thats why I was asking for road signposts - I suppose they can be
emulated with landmarks but I like the idea of a Sign post pointing South East which says "Happyville this way" )

Your chars aren't supposed to forget...it's not like they're suddenly going to be unaware they're standing in Quillanoi when they've lived there their whole lives. Typing nine letters to set the town name back to Quillanoi is an unavoidable side-effect of the interface change, but it isn't that much of a chore. Newspawns and travellers are the only ones who might have to ask where they are, though ideally there'll soon be a "Welcome to Wherever" landmark in every town where it matters. (Though changing the town name after that might be difficult, unless we get a way to destroy landmarks...)
And since all the exits are still listed in the same order, it's not going to be very difficult for a traveller to orient themselves, provided they've got a map.

I am not sure but I think i voted no, in the poll before.
Now i voted yes.
the dynamic naming of things simply doesnt work right now. the only way for it to work is mass amnesia.
This does makes some problems for my characters, but i am sure they are temporary.
One change that makes it now possible is that you can see the direction of routes, which was not possible before. Before there was no way to tell which road was heading where if you couldt see the destination, which is one of the main reasons i voted against before. But as i said i think this is solved now.

mmm,
i think this is about location name indeed.
With building names i think there should be dynamic naming, but the same name should be visible for everone, just like there was a sign.
I think anyone should be able to change the name of a building any time.
Some may think this causes problems when new or evil players start renaming every building. I personally dont think this will happen very much. The basic reaction of the 'owner' of the building would be to try to hurt or kill that character, and he will probably get the help of everone around. This will ensure it doesnt happen that often. And anyway it is very ease to quickly change it back again...

I like Chris' idea of signposts - would it be very difficult to use the basis of the landmark to create an object named 'signpost' where the creation process is exactly the same, but there's a drop-down field where the direction of pointing can be chosen - it could appear as landmark do, but with just that extra line in the description...

Oh well, but many chars will still like to build simple landmark simulating many signposts to have less resources used.
And I like that it is possible to store names now before general amnesia, but why everyone must do this manually? Maybe there should be temporary and automatically storing of default names, and general amnesia would be introduced after some time, like two Cantr years. It would be more realistic, when many traveling chars would remeber some places where they were in last two Cantr years. Why we must hurry to introduce this? In my opinion this should be done at the beginning when dynamic names were introduced. Do you know how many places chars could remember from that time, but they didn't?

I agree with the suggestion, but what of notes, history? they will have to be deleted too if all towns will lose their names. i think perhaps just towns on the undiscovered islands should have dynamic names.
