It would have to vary from boat to boat. A dugout canoe wouldn't have any space for much of anything, obviously, but a ferry or a galleon should have some storage space. You used to be able to build buildings on a boat. I had one back in the day with my older characters. It was on the Monsoon, but I don't even know where that could of wound up after my characters death .There was a huge amount of steel on board.

Wasn't that the char that sailed until he hit an invisible barrier in the ocean and then starved?

Bumpity bumpity... both of these things seem to be becoming more and more pressing. Radios seem like they would be an awesome thing to be built on boats, but since boats seem to count as "outside"... grrr... that's been bugging me for a good long while. I MUST SMELT MY STEEL.

The second suggestion seems pretty damned vital now too, at least when it comes to exploring places like Burg. Everything there attacks. A TURKEY attacked me! And a lot of the animals can break through an iron shield. That's just insane. SO, let me go back to K island, build a bike and take it on my boat. I'll do it, dammit.

Yes, I suggested something like this before on other topics. We should definitely see something like this in Cantr. :-)

(Radios, Land Vehicles on Boats, etc)

Gang planks, Ramps, and Cranes of Various sizes to move limited vehicles onto limited boats.

Vehicles on boats has been suggested, and it seems buildings are on thier way (I'm waiting) so maybe radios inside buildings next to steel smelters would be possible.

But being able to get ANY kind of vehicle, just any one at all, onto some sort of Boat would be the neatest thing next to riding horses.
Reality was never my strong point.

Hear hear. We should be able to lug on a bicycle, at least? :)

Cranes and crates, that's what we should have. Firstly, you can build the crate, it can be used on land and off land (in a boat). You build yourself a crate and then you put whatever you want in there. For example, You could store some carrots in there if you really wanted to. Or if you wanted your bike in there, hop onto your bike and then choose to drive into the crate. Put a lock onto your crate and presto, you've got yourself a makeshift garage (or storage space).
If you want to go that extra step further, build a boat and then build a crane on it. Jump onto your boat, use the crane to pick up crate no. 3453243 and then sit around and wait until the cranes finished.

This way crates can be used to store, protect vehicles, or to transport items. It's a multipurpose idea. Can anyone see any faults?

I don't see why we need crates and cranes for that - the objects could be moved individually into a cabin.

Regardless, I believe there are significant coding issues with moving vehicles (or crates, for that matter, since they would essentially be movable rooms) on and off ships. In any case, ProgD is working on it, I think.

Well that would be kind of easy... a Knotting system, like they used on 18th/early 19th c ships. a line of rope with knots at regular intervals, passed it over the gunnel of the boat and held it there streaming off for a minute. count how many knots go by, thats how many knots your doing :P

We have a set of hoists and pulleys, can we not add a project "winching bike" or something like that?

Also, i think a building on a boat should not take up weight, because it is part of the boat, not cargo. would it not be better to have a prebuilt quarterdeck cabin and just add some more wood to all boat projects? since longboats now come with locks, regardless of any iron input, this would be no different, except for the wood input, obviously.
