Hallways and Staircases/Floors

Postby formerly known as hf » Tue Sep 27, 2005 3:56 pm

Hallways - Same thing as 'Stone Extension' But with a different name, requiring less stone, and much less capacity
- a way to seperate the many rooms in some buildings (the Paradeans Residence in Blojt comes to mind) - (Although just calling a stone extension a 'hallway'would work I guess - just wish some builders in game had had that sort of ingenuity...)

Stairways/FloorsRequires stone and wood I guess, or just stone. Would add an extra floor to the building - which could be visible from the building list ("The Imperial Palace - Building with 3 Floors" or something)
Should probably be limited to only the original building (i.e: Where there's an exit to outside) or where there's a staircase downwards - as there's no way to link rooms, so two staircases in the same buildingwould lead to two parts of another floor which can't join.
Just a way of adding some status to buildings, and, like hallways, seperating out rooms (Tenements anyone?)

The Hotel in Lake Village has two floors (Ground Floor rooms plus a room named Floor One) but I like the idea of being able to see it outside from the building description. :)

You could have a hatch in the ceiling and a transportable ladder, and then you could lock the ladder in the closet if you don't want anyone to reach upstairs.

But people might climb on each other's shoulders to reach the top floor with no ladder. It would depend on their strenghts if they get through. Just two people would need to be quite acrobatic, but if there was three then the two on the bottom could easily lift one up. It would be similar to dragging, exept that I don't think you could throw someone through a hatch in the ceiling if they didn't want to go. Or you could but that would require a group of people, you are defying gravity after all.

If the person in the top floor was strong enough, he could drag someone up the hatch. This way it would be possible to move a group of people up with no ladder at all. It would be easy to jump down (though there might be a slight chance of a twisted ankle while jumping down), so even if someone caught the sleeping sickness or died, the others wouldn't be stuck up there forever.

Just imagine the chances of defending against pirates and raving madmen! You could shoot down the hatch with bows, and the people below would be vulnerable. Surely they could shoot back at you but the chance of someone being at range would be lower.

People were talking about Cantr II 2.0, which *was* an idea, but has been replaced by the roadmap. To what extend the roadmap will really be implemented is totally unclear - many players are seriously opposed to Cantr going graphical and I might just never get to it - but it is the general direction in which Cantr is developing. Small steps are already taken (even resource gathering limit was part of this), but most of those steps are tiny or not visible (just on my comp to test).

The future of Cantr is totally unclear, but the roadmap gives an indication of where my wildest dreams go, that's all ;) ...
