One of my chars just starved to death ….

Postby julie2 » Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:10 pm

….and I feel pretty gutted. OK ,it was mostly my own stupid fault, and avoidable. I’d sort of kept her in suspension due to a spate of big demands on some of my other chars’ time. Anyway, I meant to wake her up just in time. i.e. today…but forgot to take account of the doubled eating rate It was stuck in my mind that she had a few days leeway.left

Anyway why didn’t Jos and the team suspend eating for a fw days , to compensate, as Kinvoya suggested? And will they please do that now, before other peoples’ chars suffer the same fate? It won’t make any difference to any of my other chars., but I ‘m sure there must be many out there in a tight spot for whom that few days loss will make all the difference.

It's been a devastating change for my some of my charaters, one of them died today. To become someone, in order to get somewhere, you basicly need resources, right? Now you don't have the time to collect these resources, the time for it has been cut i hlaf since you eat twice as much... not a good change for new spawned characters. But i guess it make sense if the game is suppose to be a reflection of the real world.

It was a bug, KingKill. There was some discussion about it over on the support forum. Seems it's beenn fixed now, but Characters embarked on long journeys, who don't have instant acess to food, will still be dying on
account of it for days to come.

As far as I'm concerned, if you can't play all your characters daily, to know things about eating amounts (I mean, isn't it like 20 days of hunger before you die?) and attacks on your characters, you have too many characters on your account.

There's been more serious bugs than that one, and I'm sure it's happened before (double eating in the same hour, at least), so I don't think it's necessary to further irritate the system (i.e. what if that causes more problems? Worth it then?).

If two extra days of food put that much dent in a character's survival, then the gambler gets what would be coming to it anyways.

Edit: In case I wasn't clear enough, Ceteris paribus, 2 days of food is negligible. Considering you have a 20 day margin for error in terms of starvation, to get yourself to food. Are you telling me that after so many days (or however many it is), more than a half of an in real life month, just shy of three weeks, you didn't notice the daily hunger log?

I don't mean to be insensitive...it's just something *shrugs*

Anyways, I'll double check my numbers.

*shrugs * Posibly seven was too many. I certainlywouldn't go above that. But it's more a case of when a lot or things happen to t wo or three chars at once ( must happen to everybody sometimes) , I find it easiest to focus on those two or three,so they respond to things fully, than to spread equal efforts over all seven ( erm six). Not that I don't have time to look in on them all I just don't necessarily check anything more than the dialogue when I do. (which would tell me everything that need prompt action , normally ) Normally that would onlybe for a very few days at a time (and normally they wouldn'tbe hungry) but just this once, numerous major things happenened at once, and then numorous other major things ontop of those, and my char hapenened to have left too many lose ends to get away with just waking, cooking some food then falling asleep again. I figured it needed qitea bit of roleplay aliong with that, out of respect for the other players, so I shelved it until a more convenient moment.

I said it was largely my own fault didn't I. But it doesn't followthat the fault layin having too many chars, just mismanaging them under difficult conditions.

Nope, not if it caused more bugs. I would think it would be prettysafe simple, but that's uptothe ProgD to decide. They never said

Oh, come on, youcan't just presume that the player took a gamble,. Some chars are on the edge of survival simply because they're victims of circumstance, gathering limits, or -all too often- they got left in the lurch by previous bugs like boat warping or the docking fiasco- , as is clear from reading this forum. None of mine, thankfully, but that doesnt stop me feeling for others. It must be raally galling to have the rug whisked from under your char's feet several times over, by several bugs in succession, then,to cap it all, hear Nitefyre saying " Serves you right for taking a gamble "
