Would this help gameplay? Or would it make the game too hard for people who cannot play a lot of time every day, but play e.g. 10 minutes a day (for whom the game was originally designed)?

Slap -> email
Would it be a good idea if you can set your account (this should be configurable) so that when someone slaps you, you get an email? Perhaps with a limit of one email per five minutes, to avoid someone who hates you and keeps slapping you
... Then slapping someone in the face really because a method of waking someone up
...

I was actually thinking about something similar to this in some point.
People asking would being attacked count as well, I'd say sure it would. Since if good slap on your face won't wake you up then getting sabred might.
My thought is that if someone's been without checking their account for a while but hasn't set "on leave" status, they might get email with possible whispers said to your characters. Since people are more likely to check their email than some game they just joined and haven't quite gotten into yet. And if you're letting your characters sleep because you think no one would talk to them anyway, it would warm your little heart to notice someone talking to this poor character, and you wouldn't have to browse through loads of chatter and other crap. This good enough for a new suggestion or maybe I shouldn't bother.

I like it - as long as people can RP the effect well - obviously Cantrians wouldn't know the real effects of their slapping...
Although, it could be abused by people more active on the 'net- as in - 'we'll slap you when we're about to start our raid on the town' - using it to send a message to the player that they should become active at the moment that they get the e-mail
maybe it should happen at a certain time of each day, rather than as-and-when the character gets slapped (i.e: at 7pm all those characters who have got slapped in the past 24 hours get a message sent to the player)
Also, it definately should be configurable - so that those people who play very little can turn it off, and not have to worry about feeling guilty that they're not active when another player wants them to be

Yeah, I see your point. Actually my idea was exactly to make cooperation slightly faster than it currently is, but yes, it would also apply to people with bad intentions
Perhaps it's indeed too much contradicting the current play style.

Well, that would kind of defy it's purpose

I find it bogus to RP a slap to alert someone. Personally, I would be very upset if I were say, a Councillor of Kwor. Newspawns slapping me into next Friday because they need carrots doesn't sound appealing. And from the standpoint of RP, a slap is insulting. Maybe nudge would work better.

How is using this to destroy society instead of preserve society abusing the implementation?

I say no. Already, there is serious strain on some people to actively play their chars... bothering them at private mail about something that is, after all, just a game, is simply too much.
The addicted players probably check their chars at the times they check their mail anyway... non-addicted players deserve their privacy. If a char is sleeping, well, he is sleeping, there may be any RL reason for the player not responding... you can never force him to respond. Mailing him could even be seen as spamming... asking for attention from this silly game he may only have a slight interest in.

I would say both are a bit of an abuse really - the raid was only an exampleNick wrote:How is using this to destroy society instead of preserve society abusing the implementation?
-as far as I'm aware, any real-life organisation of in-game events is a breach?
And I like it like that - that the barrier between IG/RL is a lot stronger than most games
If alerts are to be introduced, I'd much prefer a system where all events (bar maybe eating) could pop-up an alert, although this would be silly by e-mail I'd have thought.

Umm, my charries haven't been slapped...and the only time they have...was a hit and run newspawn....I really do not want an e-mail telling me this...interesting idea though...but I am regularly active with my charries...if I am not, there are RL reasons I cannot be..so an E-mail wouldn't do any good....
I check Cantr more than I check e-mail anyways!!
