Private talking change

Postby Nick » Wed Sep 14, 2005 8:06 am

Instead of seeing:

You see Bob talking to Jane

It should read

You see Bob saying to Jane: Hi, Jane!

This could encourage people to hold meetings in buildings, while still leaving the convenience open to be able to tell when people are talking to you, so you can pay close attention. Or so you can see it's not to you and ignore it, if you choose.

edit: a pleasant side effect... no more people having sex in the town square in front of people, covertly.

In my experience private talk is usually business, gossip or conspiracy (big or smile).

I don't think Nick's suggestion is needed. If I am Bob and I want to say something to Jane in for example a meeting, I'll simply adress her (Bob says: "Jane, what is you opinion in all of this?").

I don't see how Nick's suggestion would encourage people to hold meetings indoors. It doesn't change anything at all about the gameplay, if you ask me.

Sorry, Nick!

It would lead to increase of note traffic for people that want privacy... and little else.

:)

To be sure, we really don't know whether it will lead to a) more indoor conversations; b) more notes being passed; or c) no change, do we? :)

I suspect Jur is right.

Are we ever 100% sure about what the consequences will be of any change?

At least we can have a good guess. Jur's guess is probably a good guess.

That's a good thing to accomplish too. More history! If as you say, all the important things are said in private. So when someone dies, their dirty secrets can be found.

And again, at the very least... no more public sex.

Yeah, but you're not going to KEEP saying someones name if you have a conversation, among other situations.

 They can still do it in buildings. Or through notes. Whispering is just too convenient.

No, now we'll have public NOTES with graphic sexual content, and people RPing sex out loud publicly. Great, Nick, great.

I really dislike this one, it just makes it so people who are unlucky enough to own a building (nearly every char in cantr) cannot talk in private. Business would be much harder to conduct, and any plans that are illegal would be nearly impossible to get into effect.
