Breach in Flikadorov Woods east (NL area)

Postby Pieter de Groote » Tue Sep 13, 2005 11:21 am

It seems to me the player is new to the game and needs some education.
The character Tycho was not in town when this Tom was imprisoned.
Start at the bottom. If translation is needed, let me know.

1287-5: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Schiet op!"
1287-5: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "ik ben tycho, hij zit bij mij op school"
1287-4: Plurk (a woman in her twenties) zegt: "Ah. Hij heet Tom. En hoe heet jij? En hoe ken je Tom? Heeft hij met je gesproken?"
1287-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Hij kan ervoor betalen."
1287-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Mijn vriend heet Tom en heeft 95% honger, hij gaat dood!"
1286-5: Plurk (a woman in her twenties) zegt: "Ik ben Plurk en ik ben hier al een poosje buiten. Ik heb niets uit het detentiecentrum gehoord. Jij wel? Hoe heet je eigenlijk?"
1286-5: Pedro (a man in his twenties) zegt: "hoe heet jij en hoe weet jij dat meneer"
1286-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Er zit een vriend van me en hij is bijna dood"
1286-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Iemand moet het detentiecentrum openen voor me."
1283-4: Deborah (a woman in her thirties) zegt: "Ik ben Deborah."
1283-4: Deborah (a woman in her thirties) zegt: "Wat is je naam en waar haal je die informatie vandaan?"
1283-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Hij verhongert"
1283-4: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: "Wie kan die gast uit het detentie centrum halen, hij is een vriend van me"

The character is also IC speaking about Cantr Wiki:
1288-1: Tycho (a man in his twenties) zegt: „Ik ben bezig met de nederlandse versie van Wiki, Diederick"

I don't believe there are any Dutch PD members.
I'm sure they could forward it to the Language Department, have them translate it, send it back to the PD, and the PD can review it and handle it from there.

Or you might want to save yourself a whole lot of red tape and translate it. :)

I am the player behind Diederick. This is what I said to him (start at the bottom):

----------------------------------------------

1288-3: You say to tycho: „(OOC: Tycho, wiki does not exist for your character either!!! Computers do not exist, internet does not exist, websites do not exist! That OOC (Out Of Character) which is in front of this text means that I am now talking as the player. Something we by the way try to avoid as much as possible in this game. If you talk in this game, you should talk as the character. You only know whatever you character has seen or heard. Your character has never heard of wiki, so he cannot talk about it either. First read the manual of this game, than you will probably understand.)"

1288-1: tycho says: „I am working on the Dutch version of Wiki, Diederick"

1287-7: Je zegt tegen tycho: „(OOC: Tycho, this is a role-playing game. That means that a whole fantasy-world is created here and all players crawl in the skin of a person who lives in this world. Look at it as some kind of acting. Whenever you crawl in the skin of such a person, the real world seizes to exist: you are a man in his twenties and you have never heard of any school. Even worse, you don't even know this is just a game, but to you this is hard reality. I know this all sounds a bit weirdo, but try it out for a while, you'll see it's fun. I advice you to have a look at www.cantr.net/wiki as well where a thing or two is explained about the game. Good luck and have fun!)"

----------------------------------------------

Pfff, translating this was hard ("To crawl in someone's skin" is a Dutch expression) :)

Anyway, as you can see I explained a thing or two to him. At least I did my best. I don't see what could be done more to get him to understand Cantr.

Currently the Languages Department doesn't have a Dutch translator - which is a shame, since new parts won't get translated to Dutch and we won't be able with this kind of messages either. If you know Dutch well and have a little time to spare, please apply. You can get the application form by clicking on "Apply to join the staff" and choosing the Languages Department.

Two Tychos

Postby Pieter de Groote » Thu Sep 15, 2005 12:47 pm

An addition for PD:
There are two Tychos, one in Sil and one in Flikadorov Woods east.
Since Tycho is not a common name and both spawned around the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if it's the same player (called Tycho...).

I'm guessing the name is probably from Penny Arcade...

Way to go, resurrecting a CR breach thread.

Perhaps PD should lock these as they are addressed?
