You realise the uproar that would cause?
And for no reason?
*shakes his head*
Notes really aren't that big a problem... just stuff them in a trash envelope and drop it somewhere. Especially if we get multiple note selection... (hint, hint)

I laughed about this for two days:
But about deleting notes:
Why is it the only way?
Here is a modest proposal: make it possible to mark notes DELETABLE. It would be a new option, like EDITABLE. Deletable notes get a little "delete" icon. When you click on that icon, then poof! she is gone, as if by magic.
The deletable option can only be set when the note is first created.
Copies of notes would be deletable by default. (It would be harder to make undeletable copies.)
OR, add a "delete" icon to notes that does not delete the notes (isn't that neat?). What it does is increase an invisible counter. If five people over the age of 25 request that a note be deleted, then poof! she is gone, as if by magic.
OR, since you mention burying a body, how about allowing notes to be given to dead people? And then, the notes can be buried with the person! Once the burying project is started, it would be just like things are now. You couldn't tell if the body was just stuffed with notes or not, so there would be none of the psychological pain that Anthony described (about seeing the notes but not being able to read them).
Isn't that what used to happen to a dead person's clothes and ornaments?
Why are we so cavalier about characters dying but so precious about notes?
Besides, if a thief steals a note (like that crazed librarian on a bicycle), you are NEVER going to see that note again. Knowing that it still exists somewhere in Cantr... well, what good does that do anyone? If the laws of the Dorian Mountains are locked in a shack in Pak, how is that a good thing? And how is it different from the notes being destroyed?
One of my characters runs a town, and she periodically has to replace the notes, mainly because some newbie picks them up to read them and then walks off without dropping them. So my character has originals that she copies and drops. The fact that old (outdated) versions are off somewhere in the mountains... well, who cares?

I'll reiterate my statement...
"At the moment" being defined as: Right now this very second.
What you suggest means, yes, it could be done, but not "At the moment". It'd be in the future, with programming.
"At the moment", it can not be done.
The only way to do this, at the moment, is much like burying a body.

I wonder what kind of space all these notes take up on the server? The ones with images, well the images take up more space than text, but each image is just a placeholder linked to a single copy of the image on the server.
Can we get some statistics (If that's even possible?)

Reality was never my strong point.

i think notes should decay the only inportant notes are ones made by goverments and they will be botherd to copy them but even better if a note is not read by some body older than 30 for 10 years it should then decay most idiotc notes are read by newbies and that also means trash will decay wich is really good

I think it's safe to assume this idea will be rejected. It's been suggested many times before, and Jos has stated that he doesn't want a way to destroy notes, as they're a good way to research Cantrian history.
And I must say, I agree with him.
And as for that last suggestion, right before this post...
