You beginning to see why I complained alot at the recent change that allows boats to dock to boats already docked on land?

It is ridiculously hard to keep hold of a large ship now.

Hmm.. maybe that explains what happened to the 100 kilos of potatoes I recently stored on a locked ship. I dont know about all of the mechanics, but I assumed that a locked ship would be just as safe as a locked building. Finding the ship still locked but the spuds missing, I just about to report their disapperance as a bug.

That's ridiculous. Yeah, I can se why you bitterly complained , Surly. That gives pirates such a huge advantage that I fail to see the point in building a ship in ther first place (Except as a vluntary donanation to the Impoverished Pirates Relief Fund, perhaps?)

The only way to keep pirates out of your ship is either to have a ship too small for something to dock to it, like a dinghy or a canoe, or then keep moving all the time.

Practically if you know you'll be ashore a while using your beaching boat then you might set your bigger boat drifting, just make sure it's a limited amount of turns or that it's headed towards a shore and will stop when bumping into it. Since if it's set for 0 turns then it'll keep going on forever and even if it was travelling 10% you could never catch it. You may have to do some running but at least you know your boat will be safe for a preset period of time. Ok, it will also be safe from you.

Always set a limit number of turns, even if it was a big amount like 60 then at least you know there's a technical chance of getting your boat back in some point if you undock from it and forget to set speed to 0.

They didn't? Hmm, what do you know about this?
Anyway it might be a bit hard to sail when the PD freezes their accounts over having several characters in the same gang. So I'd be surprised if they were still alive.

*mutters something about starvation*

I knew something was suspicious about that 'gang' when they landed in Xendra and asked how to get to Quillanoi Forest, because they wanted to set up a blacksmith shop there. Having come from Olip... very suspicious...

Let's just say they tried to break into a boat they shouldn't have and got served some divine justice  . As to who plays their chars, I don't know and don't care.

This issue concerns me greatly, big boat stealing will become more rife, and the only way i can think of to stop this is to have someone onboard all the time, which is far from ideal. Boats should not be able to dock onto other boats while they are harboured..... i saw a galleon go recently, it's the start of a trend it seems, and all the hard labour they put into it just drifts off into the sunset :(

Encourages CR Breaches

Postby saztronic » Sun Sep 11, 2005 6:50 am

I agree with Surly and Borat. The rule that you can dock to a ship in port is ridiculous for all the reasons already stated, and as Borat says, the only way to prevent it would be to keep a couple people on board at all times -- not very practical. And it would obviously encourage CR breaches, as people will just create sleeper chars to keep on their boats.

I've written to the PD about this. Being able to dock to a ship in port and just sail away with it is the equivalent of having someone come into a town, pick up a building and all the machinery that's in it, and just walk away with it with very little chance whatsoever of giving chase or reclaiming what's stolen.

If I had to choose I would say this is hands down the stupidest thing I've come across in Cantr.

Excellent!

Now that it's been admitted that the ability to dock to a ship in port was in fact an unintended programming glitch, it will be great when the GAC puts The Miss Jenny II back in Klojt where it belongs.

Thanks in advance! When exactly should we expect her reappearance?

I believe it is not policy to revert changes of possession. There's simply no way to change possession without going into fine detail and manipulating the database, and it's a horrible pain to RP.

Interesting

Even when said change of possession results from an avowed bug in the system? Believe me, it's more painful by far to RP the loss of this ship than it would be to RP the return of it.
