What we learnt last month

 1/3 of all fruit and vegetables grown in the UK is thrown away by farmers because supermarkets demand 'aesthetic perfection' regardless of the quality of the product itself (the same goes for fruit and vegetables grown in the US and most of the EU)

 Forcing prisoners to pretend that they are dogs is not inhumane - according to the 12th major (US government) investigation into practices at Guantanamo Bay

 The blood of newborn babies conatins, on average, 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants

 The Jordan River (in which Jesus is supposed to have been baptised) is now more than 50 percent raw seage and agricultural run-off

 An American Rotary Club gave a Hummer away as top prize in a raffle raising money to build an environmental awareness centre

 1.35 trillion dollars - the World military budget 2004 - the US accounts for nearly half of this figure. Total aid for 2004 is not even equal to 1/4 of this amount.

 Organic farming uses 30 per cent less energy and water and no pesticides and produces the same yields - for soya beans and corn (maize) as conventional farming does

 A study has shown that two year olds who watch more than two hours of tv a day on average are able to recognise brands such as McDonalds via tv advertisig - before they can even speak properly.

 John Boulton has been appointed the new US ambassador to the UN. Boulton on the UN: "There is no such thing as the UNited Nations. There is an international community that occasionally can be led by the only realpower left in the world, and that is the US. When it suits out interest, we can get others to go along."
Whoever you vote for.

I learned that Eazy-E made peace with N.W.A before he died, and that Arabian Prince has a graphics studio.

I also learned how to fry mushrooms.

Why was that not noted?

On the subject of the Rotary Club, are you sure it wasn't an H2 rather than a Hummer? They are similiar in looks but are totally different. H2 is using technology that there are hopes that will decrease use of gasoline (possibly totally) and decrease greenhouse gases. It is still a huge gas guzzler though.
