Karnon Forest

Postby mordiken » Sat Aug 27, 2005 9:58 am

There seem to be people with multiple characters in this location. Everytime something needs to be done the same couple people always help drag others or talk at the same time. Just creepy how a group of them seem to share a brain.

It's quite natural for friends to be awake at the same time - or more likely that people who are awake at the same time often become friends because they get to communicate more without having to wait a long time for replies. So I think it's quite likely that they're not played by the same person, but it's still worth checking because if they would be, it's not fair that someone would gain dragging advantage from having several of his/her characters work together. However mordiken, I'm sure that it will be easier for the PD to know who to check if you mention what you've named the suspicious characters. I got the impression that Karnon forest is one of the biggest cities in Cantr and it would be huge work for them to check the ownership of all the characters there.

Seko is right, knowing the names of some of the characters in question can be very helpful. It might be wiser to email us at players@cantr.net than publish them here, though.

Huh?

What happened to Bran muffin looking into this? Conflict of interests?
Reality was never my strong point.

Absolutely not. We work as a team in the PD, and we all get the same emails.

Edit: Oh, I see what you mean, Bran's post seems to be gone now. *shrugs*

Mulitple Characters in Karnon Forest

Postby saztronic » Sun Aug 28, 2005 5:34 pm

Actually, I have two characters there, although obviously I won't name them unless asked by the PD. However, I did announce ooc and in public that I was playing them both. I'd never visited this forum before, but someone suggested I should.

I'm a fairly new player, so I'm not familiar with all the old posts here. But I've been trying to play these two people as ethically as possible. I keep them separate for the most part, actually, doing things that suit their very different personalities. But I won't deny that when a general order has been given, they've chased the same person or dragged somebody together. I didn't think that was a problem, because it seemed IC for each character, but now I'm getting the impression that this sort of thing is frowned on in general.

In any case, I will be taking steps to separate them further. This is the only case I know of in KF -- meaning, I don't really know of other dual-character players there, and haven't really noticed anything weird.

Any advice (the non-incendiary kind, please) or comments would be appreciated and read.

Old

Of course, I just realized I can't be the one mordiken was talking about. His message is two years old, and I've been playing less than that by a long shot.

Get used to it, the PD can be annoying in this aspect.
Only time you can break the CR is when you have to make it LOOK like you aren't breaking the CR. And if you don't break the CR as the Police Dep.... I mean Players Department asks, then you're breaking the CR. It's quite confusing. The CR as written on the website has not much to do with the enforced one, so for new players and oldbies alike, it can get frustrating.

Having two characters in the same organization, acting upon the same philosophies, and working towards a common goal is against the Capital Rule.

Each character is to have it's own personality, dreams, goals, etc. Having two characters within TBR, or within the Karnon Army, or within the Alenz Hills army (if they had one) would break this rule.

Where it gets grey is if they are within the same organization, however not in the same town, nor working under the same leader/boss etc........this is less objectional, as long as their goals and activities are kept completely seperate.

Yeah, but why?

Postby saztronic » Mon Aug 29, 2005 1:51 am

Well, it's one thing to say it's unacceptable, but can you explain why it is?

In the first place, my characters hardly ever interact. In fact, if it weren't for other characters demanding that they be in the same place and/or cooperating sometimes, they'd hardly ever see each other.

As for whether they operate under the same "philosophies", well they don't. They have different aspirations, different goals, and incredibly, incredibly differnet personalities.

And though both support TBR, I didn't say they were both members of TBR. This might give away who they are, but I'm trying to make a point here. One of my characters, in part because it's actually in character for that char, but also because of the CR, steadfastly refuses to join TBR despite being accepted by them and having some influence with them.

So tell me: why, exactly, is this a problem? What principle is being violated that you hold sacred? I play both characters as individuals, separately, period. As an example, each has access to information that if they sat down and chatted about it would lead them both to some pretty startling and important conclusions. But they never reach those conclusions, because they don't talk, and I studiously avoid my characters ever acting as if they had access to both sets of facts.

So, again: why is this wrong, and not simply good role playing?
