Question

Postby Flak Jacket » Tue Aug 23, 2005 8:17 pm

I had one chatracter move to a city. Then I started a new character that ended up spawning in the same town. Would it be against the capital rule to have those two characters interact?

Welcome to Cantr, Flak Jacket! Here are a few links you might find interesting that explain the Capital Rule:

http://www.cantr.net/ooc/index.php?page=generalinfo.
and
http://www.cantr.net/ooc/index.php?page=newbieguide&l=1.

from the latter comes a passage specifically related to your question:

Your characters are not automatically a family, a clan, a tribe, an army, a company, or so on - not necessarily even friends. They should have their own interests and goals. They should not know each other unless they happen to meet. If two of your characters interact, they should do so as though each were looking out for their own interests and goals - essentially, as though the other character were being played by a stranger. Describing your characters as a family, banding all of your characters together to form an army, or starting a character solely to produce goods or perform services for the benefit of another one of your characters (making a "mule" character) are all violations of this aspect of the Cardinal Rule.

So yes, they may interact, as long as they interact fairly, with no knowledge of the other person except what they actually experience.
In practical terms, it's easier not to have them interact, though. Cantr's a huge place, and it's quite easy to go years or decades without running into or interacting with another one of your characters.

It is very easy to get confused or to play them not-quite-fairly, which is why many people don't recommend having your characters interact more than is strictly necessary. And remember, play them as if they're separate people, with their own goals and ambitions.

And don't get sneaky, or we'll come down on you like a pile of bricks

Hope this helps.
