Building Suggestions

Postby Cookie » Fri Aug 12, 2005 3:56 pm

I think it's a bit limited at the moment. I mean, if your colonising somewhere you want some specialist buildings to do so. And then the clony adapts. Anyway heres a few suggestions.

Tents, Marquees etc. - Made using cloth of some sort maybe. And maybe unlocakble also.

Yurts - Again with cloth or maybe wood. like this: http://danny.oz.au/travel/1999/pakistan ... 7-yurt.jpg
and some pictures of other stuff here, might be of interest...

...basicly things which require less effort in what you need material/time wise to make them, but forfeit other advantages (locks, degrade length etc.) for that.

I think that that is a very good idea.

Ever since I was a young boy, I've longed to have my own yurt.

Well, not really, but it's a good idea all the same.

I have a small yurt (well the frame, the covering rotted) and they are very good buildings, however they rot after a period of time, so should deteriate. Plus you can't really build machines in them.

Yeh, I agree. Basicly, say an expedition lands on a new island. They set up temporary buildings for basic shelter for themselves aswell as a place to store things.

A well built yurt or longhouse won't rot for decades if you take care of it right.

Thats the idea of building repair. Hopefully that will come with building deteration.

Oh, that would be interesting.

Although, the problem is, realistically, most buildings can last for hundreds of years, and I don't think most people will care as long as it's still standing.

So, should that come into play, we should do away with that piece of realism, at least to a degree.

I like it - a very quick, cheap to build shelter would be very useful.

Although you might find MANY of them croping up if they're easy to build - not nice in busy towns...

I'd say wait until building detereoration is developed - then yes...

No cured hide and long sticks?

Buildings are NOT that hard to make with a concentrated effort. Stone buildings need iron, which is flat silly, since buildings and even PYRAMIDS were being built LONG LONG before people knew of iron, much less making it.

Wood and other buildings (shack aside) are easy to build with SIMPLE tools and many hands. If you're worried about it when you colonise, either A: bring trowels, how well can you colonise if you can't make iron, or B: Bring your own wood.

With many hands, which you'll need to colonise anywhere, you can beat together a building in short order. If you want to avoid animal attacks, stay on the boat.

You mean a tent or leanto type thing made of wood and sun-dryed animal hide? Cuz that would be pretty cool.

I like these ideas.

Teepee. Usually the first suggested. I think they should be implemented at the same time as ten gallon (liters?) hats and horses, one's you can ride that is.

Somebody said there would be too many programming issues to make this work the last time this was suggested. I still like the idea, though. :D

Actually in these two threads, everyone likes the idea of the tent.
It wasn't even declined by anyone official...

Yeah, foldable buildings aren't programmed yet.

And cheap buildings are a no-no, as there would become a thousand of them. Let's look at Mud Huts. >.>

Which was my point - but how about building deteroration? Then the small ones built by dumb newspawns that then just become dumb dead newspawns would collapse pretty quickly...
