Saftey goggles are a MUST with or without armour...
I never wear armor and I don't know anyone personally that has. Usually in the paintball battles I have been someone always get their skin broken.
Yes, a mask is definitely a must. I always seem to have an uncanny and unlucky habit of being hit in the face. NOT FUN!

I've never worn armour.
Masks however, are essential. Seeing as I have to hire stuff to paintball, they wouldn't let me if I didn't wear a mask. Health and safety...
On the plus side, pain generally means the paintball hasn't exploded, and that you are technically 'unhit'...
