We're using languages already in existance on Earth. Our societies didn't appear knowing how to speak. All languages now were CREATED.
Nick wrote:Well in order for this game to truly simulate a society, we shouldn't be allowed to speak any "OOC" language out there. Langauges were formed, by societies.

Now what I think Nick meant is, If this is to be a real society Sim, we should make up our own languages just as it's been done on earth when our socioties were becoming what they are.

And how many people (besides perhaps Junesun and other linguists) would want to stick around for that?

As it is now, a character is spawned knowing the language of the place where it was spawned, and no other. That's just a cantr reality, and I fail to see what the point was of Nick's statement.

The clearest explanation I can think of is.......no proper nouns should be used, which means, nothing capitalized from our world. e.g. names, places, religions

and.......the use of nouns should be restricted to that which is found in game, or can be reasonably assumed to be found in game, as it cannot be programmed in. e.g. sun, smell, hair, arms, etc.

What this means is, no one should smoke a cigar, no one should hear a bell ring, no one should be a god named Jehovah, and no one should come from Spain nor be a Muslim.

The word "fascist" is a generic term from our language which fits none of the above, therefore I do not think we can disallow it, just as "democracy" and "capitalism" can't be. We would have to make up different words to mean the same thing, which goes against the whole idea of "Cantrians know the language their character exists in".

I hope this makes sense, and helps to clear up any confusion there might still be regarding this issue.
