Feathers
Currently there's only one kind of feathers. That leaves room for rp and imagination but it's still a bit dull. The colour and size should depend on the type of bird it's from and you know there are different feathers in a single bird depending on which part of the bird they come from. The small feathers are called down. That sounds a bit stupid but anyway we should get down along with the harder overfeathers and these could then be used for making down quilts and down jackets and pillows. There could be a project of removing the stems (possibly with a knife) to create processed down that doesn't poke. Also there should be different kinds of plumed hats and feather headdresses, for the hats there would first be the basic hat and then you could upgrade it into something special. It could be called project: decorating a hat and it would be really short because it doesn't take long to stick a feather or even several onto a hat.

Currently, there's only one kind of fur.
Currently, there's only one kind of hide.
Currently, there's only one kind of feathers.
At present, the above three are true due to programming restrictions.
We CAN implement new fur/hide/feather types, no problem there. However, to add them to a project is another story all together. We'd have to create a project for every type of feather. So, a feather hat... you'd see in the clothing list:
feather hat (seagull)
feather hat (other bird a)
feather hat (bird b)
...
And now times that by every feather object, as well as fur and hide. It's a pointless route. However, if there were some programming way around this (Which is half implemented, actually), then it'd be fine.
So, for now, I'm not going to move the topic. It's not accepted, but it's not rejected either.

Stringing a bow project can use a hemp bowstring OR a silk bowstring OR a cotton bowstring. So... ok, feathers aren't items though... If items would be stackable then feathers could be changed into objects and you would have 1000 feathers instead of 1000g of feathers. Black feathers, black and white feathers, gray feathers, brown feathers, bright yellow feathers, ostrich feathers...

You see that wrong.
What is added to those bowstrings might be different resources.
But the product is the same a Bowstring.
It's like iron made with coal, charcoal or petrol.

Peanut is half correct.
We have a way to "get around the system" for allowing things with different names be the same object (Kind of like a Stone Hammer and a Steel Hammer both being able to be used when a project merely needs a 'Hammer'.)
However, this "get around" has it's flaws. Once we tell it "they're the same", we can't make it any different.
What I mean is... let's take different feathers, for example.
If we made, say, three different kinds of feathers, and implemented them like the bowstrings, we'd have a problem.
You could have a project to create a "seagul feather hat", unfortunately, our work around doesn't work like that. That seagul feather hat will take ANY kind of feather now, so those feathers from those penguins (Don't ask.) will work to make a seagul feather hat.
The only way around THIS get around, is of course, the "make everything different" scheme. But that means several new feather types, several new projects for EACH feather type, multiplied by each feather baring bird, as well as all other materials if implemented.
It's either... 1000 new things in the database... or illogical application of one type of item to a project asking for another.
In essence, it can be done, but would require programming for any use.

Not good in my opinion... This would mean you could make an elaborate eagle feather head dress out of chicken feathers...( I know..I know...but just used those birds as an example) If you wish it to be described as a multi-bird feather headress, or a feather boa made of strictly ostrich feathers...then RP it that way...

Then why haven't you applied for Programming?
