But in Cantr that is covered by the scarcity of food, as it were. There's no need to complicate that by implementing water. It's a waste of programming time, and a waste of everyone's time.

I think it's the 'already complicated enough' combined with the 'why do new players need to die for not knowing everything?'
Maybe with a trace of 'this will not be done right to start with' added in.
I don't see the point. And of course, it's not very nice to make every new character be hungry or thirsty their first day or two, unless their player is experienced and logs on often...
Also, water would have to be available almost everywhere. Not in deserts maybe, and some other places as well, but it would be quite ubiquitous.
Also also...IRL most travelers didn't need to carry much water, if any...they could find it by the roadside in most places. Cantrians, though...they'd have to carry around a few kg of water everywhere, in addition to their food supply.

Agreed, on that front.
Now, I can understand you guys arguing that this could be implemented badly, and have severe consequences. That's a valid fear.
However, saying that you don't get the point to having water? Come on, you guys can't seriously mean that.

I remember a long time ago some water had floated around in the tirqci area in some peoples inventories.
First I'm wondering how many of you feel we should have liquid in the game?
Second I'm wondering if we willlll ever have liquid in the game. Like when weather is implemented - if it rains will we be able to use barrels to catch water in?
And will we actually be able to drink it or maybe even HAVE to drink it to survive....
Numerous times people have mentioned wanting to have wine and beer. I don't know if these ideas were ever implemented? If they have been, giving us water would open up the game for other ideas as drinks
I earlier mentioned the cacao bean. I would really like to see this implemented, and for our characters to have uses for it.
Refer here for facts etc..
http://www.nvogue.com/nVogueFoods/Choco ... colate.htm
We would dry them, grind them....
Eventually it could be used for making cocoa, chocolate itself, and later for cakes or whatever....
If water could make it into the game. We would then have use for oranges and lemons too..
And while I'm thinking about all this, we should be able to make apple juice and cider as well. And tea leaves should also be introduced.
Drinks could have advantages- or simply be a necessity.
How many of you would rather have liquid as a necessity for your chart to survive?
How many of you would rather have liquid as a healing food and when mixed with something perhaps its healing power is greater than just water alone
Or should some drinks have healing purposes, and others not? Which ones, and why?
Or..should drinking remain as simple as just plain old water?
I think thats a awsome Idea, I mean... coffee to get rid of tiredness e.g
Cocoa beans and Coffee beans I think would be the next biggest talk if it was implemented.
You are the perfect drug.....

This got discussed rapidly in the chat room tonight. Just to share one improvement to the idea that I came up with that wasn't rejected outright was this....
What if water only became an issues in the deserts, or to put it another way, in association with high temperature weather patterns (wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more)? People marching off in the desert would need to stop and factor in water (extra water) to maintain hydration while in arid conditions. People living near water and in temperate regions can be assumed to be amply supplied with water and therefore the drinking requirement is automatically met.
Too put this yet another way...you only need to gather extra water for adverse conditions. But what about Pok, someone asked. Well...this would either stimulate water trade, or water could be added to a few desert locations like oases around which a population could thrive. Either that or water harvesting tools could be implemented. Check out an Eagle Scouts guide for details.
But bigger than water, I think the alcohol could eventually be important for medicinal purposes (as well as just plain fun
). Alcohol and tea were very important agents to purify water. I would still like to see some more diseases besides the sneezes creep up in Cantr. And I like the idea of slurred speech afflicting your drunk character, with a routine to random slur your text entries before displying them as the drunkeness increases.
That will make for some interesting in game moments!
