Why can't all 14 year olds be like Nixit?

Postby wichita » Mon Aug 01, 2005 4:41 am

This is not intended to start a flame war or ranting! :D

I have been thinking lately about certain trends in behavior, wether it be forum posting or chatting on the newly revived IRC channel, and trying to decide the best way to address and deal with some of our concerns. I couldn't think of a good way, so I started this. ;)

We have a lot of great young (12 to 15 year old) players here, and we dearly love having you guys around both iin the game and on the forums and in the chat room. You guys are a valuable part of the Cantr community and I for one hope you guys feel welcomed to stick around for a long time to come. And Nixit is my favorite example of a very mature and model 14 year old citizen of our little world, so I have decided to embarass him in my little manifesto here. :D He is very intelligent and I feel adds some good contributions and ideas to discussions, and he can also be very humorous and playful without going over the top when moods need to be lighter.

But there are others out here (and I am not naming names) that don't fit in quite as.....smoothly. They cause problems and irritate us with random thoughts and rants and pointless conversations. Some of them have eventually come to fit in, our we have learned to accomodate them...others are still....annoying. So my question for discussion is, how do we help our young friends try to fit in a bit better without stooping to their level or alienating them too badly? Or conversely, to a certain extent, how do we as older players keep ourselves from becoming to biased against their ideas and posts once we have identified them as being younger? I would really like to be able to reach out and help everyone come to terms with ourselves and try to tolerate each other. I guess it is the educator instinct in me. :D I watched Lean on Me one too many times. :oops:

One of the beautiful things I find about the Cantr community is that age really doesn't matter as much here in the grand scheme of things. A 15 year old and a 30 year old can hold the same level of respect and "authority" here and perform equally well at improving and mainting the game.

Um....I think I am done rambling now. Hopefully somebody else has some productive ideas and discussion to add to this. Or should I just sit down and play quietly? :D

This is a great topic and I don't think we will ever come up with a solution for each and everyone of them because they are all different in their own unique ways. I have a lot of fun chatting with them and really enjoy listening to their opinions. Now since I am an older player I find that I should act a certain way and really watch what I do around the forum and Chat room. But they do not treat me as such and that is very nice. I think their input on the game is very important because they are going to have to take care of us old spawns once old age homes are made. :lol:
I really enjoy chatting with them and when I do, I do not think of age at all when I do, I just think of another person who loves the same game that I do.

(Pie being on the station was the sweetest thing I have ever heard and I was so sad when he told me that his mic was wrecked, because it would have been great to hear his opinion on the game live on the station.)
And the others mentioned above, I had no idea were young. :D So that shows that I don't really think about age. I just hope that they don't mind being around an old man like myself. :)

KINVOYA IS 13! HOLY @#$%

as for me.. somtimes i make some mistakes as post som bad suggestions in the suggestion forum.. i should have thought a bit mor about them.. but i have done a few good ones to. the tevery suggestion had only one person ACTAVLY against it.(surly) and i was just trying to balance the game out.. and have people be able to do more bad things. seriously.. we need the thevery thing.

but somtimes i can be silly to. i mean.. thats the good thing about me. i can understand the complex things about some scientific method(evolution being somthing with no evedance and i don't know how sombody can beleve in anything with no evedance. the bible in fact.. has huge amounts of scientific and fossle evedence AND anthropolagy evedance to prove anything EVEN fossle evedance to point to a giant flood.. unsted of a comit hitting the earth. pleas make another topic if you want to say somthing about this)
but i can still be silly at times.

Why can't all thirty year olds be as mature and coherent as Nixit, too?

Seriously-- I read some of the stuff my "peers" write, and it makes me cringe. It also makes me realize that as long as people have such poor communication, rhetoric, and critical thinking skills, I still have a chance for world domination.

Yay, someone remembered me. :P Anyways, I would believe that I am somewhat mature, correct me if I am wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

I don't know, you might have changed... :wink:

No, Trage is mature for his age. My prediction is he'll backslide when he reaches Uni though... I know I have... :D

Everyone's being to nice about this for me to post my view on it.

I'll leave it at having a low opinion of humanity in general.

<Rant>
Puberty is a plague. It starts in about 13 years old and gets worse, the peak of terribleness being in the age of 15 and sometimes I get so mad I wish the worst cases were locked up and beaten until they grow up. When people are 17, the annoyingness has mostly faded. Thank God. But there can be little bits left for many years after.
There's nothing wrong with being childish. I am childish and proud of it. But being a teen *shudders* Luckily I have had very little teen features in my life, thanks to being mentally beaten in that age. I wouldn't recommend getting bullied for anyone but at least it kept me from turning one of "them". I only act like a teen when I got PMS. So it must be hormonal. I mean like a teen in the violent and verbal sense. Some of the stuff depends from the society, like the clothing and music and drinking your brains out every weekend. And that part could be changed with setting limits, school uniforms, curfew, house arrest.
If only everything was as easy as in Cantr. If a kid steals or speaks rudely to the elders, it's pretty damn sure he'll be killed or at least beaten and/or locked up.
</Rant>

I agree with the others that Nixit and trage are nice for their age.
