And since we can't edit our posts, I'm adding this: How many kids consider themselves kids these days? As soon as you learn to talk you're a big boy or a big girl, you don't need help, you can do everything on your own and so on. And if you try to tell a 13 year old they're a child... Cantr year is just 20 days, that's not terribly long. But Cantrians don't have to grow as slow as real life people. And at least in poor and primitive cultures, many kids die young. It's far more natural for babies to die than 20 year olds.

Heck yeah they're unnatural. I mean, if two people make this "baby" thing it must be some kind of object, right? Maybe a machine. But then it starts talking and moving around on it's own? That's just scary.
(Though you know that when children are first introduced the majority of characters are going to act like babies are these perfectly natural and much desired things that they've always wanted, will expect everyone to love and protect them, yadda, yadda, and of course be shocked and offended by anyone who thinks otherwise.
Kind of like how some people immediately started talking about currency when the coin presses became available, even though the whole concept would have meant nothing to their characters.)

2) What do you do if a child steal something and doesn't want to give it back:
a) put into prison
b) atack him and hurt
or maybe his parents will be responsible for all?
Umm, children couldn't do any damage with their little fists, they would just be laughed upon ohh darling, you're so silly. That's it, stop it. Don't you punch mommy again or you'll get - that's right, in the corner with you.
And remember some things are as easy as taking candy from a baby. Children wouldn't have untouchable inventory. I think no one should have untouchable inventory but depending on the character strenght, it would take lots of tiredness to take away an item.

Oh, well, make touchable inventory and let everyone steal your keys, or kill you with your own sabre.

Hm... I sense sarcasm...
Obviously it wouldn't be that easy!
Anywho, I like the idea, I think it could make things a lot more interesting, and as Nick said, Children and Families are an "intregral" part of society, so I think they are necessary.

Or make them as animals with possibility to hunt on them
That would be more fun. And if there would be enough childs then there would be newspawns, so it would let people control creation of population.

If you tried to take a sabre from an adult, you'd have about 50% tiredness when you're done, someone could easily take the sabre back from you and you were too tired to fight. And we wouldn't give keys to babies, would we? Well the older ones might have their home keys and yeah some mean people might try to rob them, but that would require a change of morals, stealing from kids is wrong. Have you ever heard of someone attacking a kid and taking their home key to rob the house? Well possible but I sure have never heard of it.
And usually newspawns who hit people are seriously trying to get themselves killed, if they were mad over some sensible reason then they may be dragged somewhere to calm down. One of my characters got hit by a newspawn for was it 2 damage, through an iron shield. She's been carrying that bruise for years. So without natural healing, even angry newspawns are a threat.

If I could use up 50% tiredness to wrench a sabre out of someone's hands...All costal tows would soon be eradicated. Seriously. Hit, take the best weapon in town, or any key. Repeat until you get bored, having 30+ top of the line weapons quietly rotting away in your hold, and 20 kg of iron.
You could do something similar with a bike or car, though it's not as safe.

Ah...the wonderful OOC we love children attitude.
Any criminal characters I may have are unlikely to have any such absurd modern scruples. Cantr is not in any way like modern, 'human life is precious, everyone deserves happiness' first world (non-poverty) living. Except when people can't check their advanced civilization at the login.

Actually, when I suggested this, I didn't have in mind the players actually playing babies.
They should be born at a certain age, whatever winds up working best.
During the infant years, if there even are any, they would merely be kept safe and fed, by the parents. They don't have to have an active roll other than needing to be fed and kept safe. They don't have to even speak. Programming wise, they could be like an object, only they do need to be kept fed.
Later on, when they get to a teen age, like maybe 14 or so, THEN the teen can be played by a player. One of the parents can play the teen from that age forward just as any other character is played.
Some players maybe won't want to play a teen character, and this adds to the realism of it all. Because sometimes parents will avoid having children if they don't want them, and likewise, sometimes mom's become pregnant when they didn't really want too.
After reading through these posts I can see there might be some large programming concerns, and my son is into programming, so I can appreciate the complications in that aspect.
But - as it has been said here, Cantr is a socieity simulator rpg. So, the kids really do have to be included, they simply must. Having generations which can be followed thoughout the years and generations, is such a vast reality to a real civilization.

Strange days indeed
