I agree with Nick on this one. I think that the decay rates are decent (perhaps a little bit of change wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it is needed), but that repair rates should be quartered or so. An item that you have for a year, shouldn't take you a tenth of a year to repair (that would be like having a shovel for a year, and then having to repair it for 35 days).

Yeah, item rot wouldn't bug me half so much if repairs were quicker. This whole thing with tools taking longer to repair than replace is VERY frustrating. Replacing things like bone knives and needles isn't so bad (and you can always pass the old stuff off to a newspawn), but for things with harder to get materials it's a real pain.

It means that the more equipment you use, the more labor to keep up that equipment you need. Unfortunately certain important forms of equipment (vehicles and machines) are currently exempt, but for what it works on it seems almost perfect.

Woah, where ya been?! Item Rot is HORRID! And I'm fixing it. This shouldn't be a problem too much longer.

I disagree. It is repair that is not working but you won't listen to me anymore and anyone else.

Right now, wood items rot in 10 years. Iron in 20. Steel in 30. If we change it to be higher it's only going to take longer to repair and nothing will ever rot and there would be no gorram point to having the Ta Ma Duh rotting system.

Don't you ever listen to anyone else, Anthony, or is your ego to big?

I really think items like crossbows should be classifed as steel weapons, not wood. Yes, the wood might degrade quicker... but considering when it falls apart you won't get the (still perfectly good) steel back, that is ridiculous. One of the most complicated and expensive items in game rots at the same speed as a stick.

That is not only stupid, it is ridiculous. And repair should be linked to the state of the item (i.e. crumbling/new whatever) not how long it has been rotting. Otherwise iron isn't actually more durable than wood. Yes it lasts longer, but with the repair rate being so high when it finally reaches old?

an old sabre should take as long to repair as an old stick. Then it will have an advantage.

Agreed about the repair rates and that is what I have been trying to tell Anthony that if he changes the deterioration rates then he is only going to double how long it takes to repair things. But he just doesn't seem to see that. Or he doesn't seem to relay what he acutally plans to do over to me.

And crossbow deteriorates faster than wood I believe. Any kind of bow is hard to keep up and reapired all the time. That is one of the disadvantages of a bow. Strings break, limbs crack, etc.... I would like to see individual objects on an object break that way you could just replace that object but that is far away from happening if ever.

Anways, crossbows should have a pretty high repair rate so it shouldn't take too long to repair them anyways.

A fair point, but to counter that they should be much cheaper. Currently there are no advantages to a crossbow over, say, a claymore. They take longer to make, require more more parts and are just as expensive.

Bit of a gap in logic there.

Crossbows do more damage.
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.

No they don't.

Or at least, they didn't before combat skills changed everything...

Hm, well I have 2 characters that are experts at hunting. One has used a claymore and it did about 51 damage. My other character with a crossbow does about 63 damage. I'm pretty sure crossbows are stronger.

As I said, that was before combat skills.

Now everything I knew means nothing. So don't bother listening to me on that topic.

Eventually everyone will realise I am right. Or all my characters will die and I'll leave. One fo the two.

(EDIT: Could just be that one of your characters is a better hunter you know...)

Claymore requires much, much more steel to make compared to a crossbow. The crossbow is mostly wood with small and few metal parts.

I actually, I do plan to lower how long some things take to make especially those made into parts but I have to okay that through Anthony first and that is only if he likes the idea.
