Not hack and slash, it'll be back to where things were before the tiredness system screwed combat, which means Cantr will be fun again... even if people were to attack like mad to increase their combat skill, they'd be too tired to defend against the retribution dished out their way so any arguements aganist the system along those lines is a moot point.

What was killing Cantr was the impossibility of combat, not an overabundance of it, without conflict and violence there is no society, only a utopia, which is about as interesting as mom and apple pie.

Never happened. Combat's been possible and practical mechanically at every stage that I'm aware of (I know once upon a time there was no violence, but I wasn't around then). It's the people that block the violence as a rule, not the mechanics. The people who are a bunch of mercilessly pacifistic sheep, for the more part.

I take no responsibility for the fact that all my characters are now pacifists. When you hit for 5 with a sabre, its hard to be any other way... :(

You should listen to yourself once in a while, maybe then you'd see just how much you don't know.

Pick up a book, read something, hell, use the compter and take time to look at something other then a game to play or a forum to moan and cry on. If you did, you would learn that violence in an intregral part of society. Cantr is sopposed to be a society simulator, therefore without violence Cantr is not what it is sopposed to be. Without the ups and downs, back and forths of conflict and people's attempts to either conquer others or keep from being conquored NOTHING in the modern world would exist because there would have been few if any reasons to do anything better then what already was.

If you knew jack about history you would know history and human life is shaped by wars, by change, most of it very violent, NOT BY PEACE. Peace is only the interlude between periods of change, always has been, and as long as humans are on this planet always will be. Every major technology we depend on today was developed to our modern standards because of war: the radar, radio, computers, aircraft, vehicles, synthetic fabrics, canned food, rockets and hundreds of other things. We would have none of these things as they are today if not for the two world wars of this century and the smaller conflicts that followed. And we would never have had the technology to create those things had it not been for the conflicts that powered the inovations that came before them.

Violence and conflict isn't "nice", it is nothing more then a natural force in the world that will never go away no matter how many delusions people spin to the contrary. It is part of life, not to be hated, not to be loved, only to be prepared for and dealt with.

And if you're so miserable, please do something about it and put the rest of us out of your misery  Back in Dec and for a while afterward I raised hell about the changes and even deleted my account because I was too busy to take the time to deal with it all, thing is I knew when to shutup.

Hey!

If you are going to have a go at me, at least find a quote that I actually said. I didn't say that. I said my characters are pacifists because they are incapable of doing anything else... and I have never (well, not in the past year) said that there shouldn't be violence. When did I say that? I just said that lowering the shield values is not the way to go about it.

Maybe you should listen to yourself. Then maybe you'd realise you're talking complete crap. I know how much of an impact war has had... don't you dare tell me I don't. Have a look at some of my posts, and then see if you can come up with a post that actually has some sense to it.

People really put too much importance on making it hard to kill someone.

You know what? If I really wanted to I bet I could go out and kill like 5 people before getting caught. The reason I don't, is not because my tiredness would increase. It's because of the reprocussions SOCIETY wold give me.

Yeah, I suppose I am being a bit over-protective of my characters...

Unfortunately, that is the ineveitable result of 2 years play. Not that I would mind if one of my characters died as the result of a war... my problem lies in the possibility of them dying as a result of all their prowess being washed away by random skills. :?

But don't compare real world to Cantr. In real world no one normal will go to kill 5 people for fun. But in Cantr we can have some stupid hack'n'slash newspawn, who can have fun in killing as much chars as possible. So, it is good, that there is not so easy to kill someone.

I know, now, don't know how that happened  Sorry, only thing I can think of is that something tripped while I was using the back buttons. Originally, I was going to respond to the post about the sabre doing 5%, just to say to keep using it.

Really I think people make lunatic newspawns out to be more of a threat than they actually are. What are they going to do, kill you with their fist? A bone knife? Most wouldn't have the patience to make one - all they're concerned with is getting killed as quickly as possible and starting a new character.

They are a threat, Lumin. Think about the older areas where healing foods are rare... If you save 0% with a shield, and a talented newspawn hits you for 5%... That's 5% that will take many, many years to get back.

All it's takes is a few irritating newspawns, and one animal attack... and your character that you have invested much time in is dead.

In past health regenerated daily when characte ate normal food. It was a good system. I also heard, that some group of Polish characters want to train their combat skills on inactive characters!... Their ars rather dumb, but worst things they get so easily :x What you think about that manner?
