Your post also made me think about something. Why do people want to see babies implemented in the game? To be babies or to have babies?

The main reason i'd like to see children implemented is mostly because I'd like to see far stretching family lines, esp for places that are ruled by kings/queens/emperors/empress'
Personally I wouldn't have much interest in RPing a baby, but for the interests of the extra RP opportunities I would do it.
Also, throwing another idea into the pot, if I understand the current spawning rules then newspawns are created with the "genes" of 2 current characters in a location...a possible solution could be to inform the newspawn of which chars were used to decide his/her skills etc "There are 34 projects etc. You have the genes of CHARX and CHARY" and also inform the 2 characters "you notice a man in his twenties you have not seen before, he has your genes" (that line might need some work) that way the "gene contributers" and newspawn could decide if they're going to RP the connection or not
Also aware that this would create newspawns of couples that aren't "couples" but im sure they could come to an agreement of "you want to take care of this one or shall I have him/her?"

For me it's both--there's so much you could do with having a baby--IE, cementing one's place as husband/wife, heirs, it would make a reason for people to get married other than love--more realistic--it would create all sorts of fun drama, you get the natural 'town mothers' with a baby to love on and raise.
And rping a baby--you finally have a history. You can say, I'm the daughter/son of X and Y and was spawned here and was raised with Y set of ideals but I did L and so on and so forth.
Look back over your life--now take away everything until you were twenty.
What are you? Ab.So.Lutley. Nothing. And that's the point I'm trying to make--we pop up with no backstory, no history, but we're not allowed to make up stuff about before we were spawned so that it makes sense how we're here.
We NEED babies. Vehemently. [/rant] [sorry, it turned into a rant, it's a pet peeve]

There should be a way so that you wouldn't be able to donate those genes.

...or just an option of remaining anonymous, otherwise it might change the distribution of newspawns too much (imagining a situation where only 1 couple in cantr have selected to "share genes" and all newspawns end up in that town)

It should be okay to spawn childish characters even now and go looking for parents... You might end up starving to death if you decide that your character is too young to farm, but that's a risk you gotta take. Some people might complain if you say your character looks like a two-year-old or a baby, so it might be better not to mention such things in rp (at least until you've found other people who are willing to play along). Just let it show in the behavior and give others the freedom to imagine the rest in a way that fits their world view.

A) But that whole POA is dependent on finding someone who'll RP with you. Which, for me, is pretty hard, because every time I spawn I'm either born into a town of three sleepers or some clod-awful boring farming town that doesnt really do anything. [Not counting Klojt btw]. I just want to be a regular person who has a childhood like everyone else [or most people else whatever].
B)That's also gonna take away from the time I have to be an adult, which is sorely limited anyway--even IRL. The more time I have to RP realistic growingupness is the more time I DON'T have to sail the world or mine a million diamonds or conquer this town and so on and so forth. Plus, I've no reason why my character's doing any of this--just cause.
C) I understand the reason why some people don't want babies at all-they're afraid they'll be forced into having them/RPing them. Only so long as the choices you make, just like IRL except in IRL you DO have to be a baby.
I don't really know why I'm rambling about this since my arguments not gonna make a bit of difference in implementation time but Cantr's down on my day off so I don't have anything to do.

I actually kind of like the idea of a "distribution of newspawns" change. If the game actually did work this way, it would give more of an inspiration for characters to get to know one another and get married (or whatever). I mean, it's not really fair that a quiet town of ten with five or six sleepers gets a lot more newspawns than a town of two or three that is really into roleplaying. This idea would actually reward the characters who are really trying to get their towns to grow in population.

2 options to birth...
Maybe, will be good...2 options...
Birth with parents, you must be whait...
or Birth without parents like actually in the game, instantaneously.
because will be so long time to waith a pregnancy of the mother.
Understand me?
Sorry for my bad english...

So for the first option you'd wait untill someones baby becomes playable?
And the second could be like this: "You notice a lonely child near the road." (Just like with a '(wo)man you never saw before'.)
The second option would allow someone to adopt the baby, or just let it die. (Or help it doing so.)
Perhaps you should also implement animals preferring to attack babies/childs, just like in nature. They always go for the weakest.

Sorry, i made a tiny mistake, i ment to add those options, not replace the normal spawning with them.

Neither one for me... at the moment. I have no idea what will fall into my head someday, though
The main issue now is that one of aspects of Cantr is society simulator, but it lacks the most basic element of every society - family. Point is, cantrians don't die of old age, so they don't need anyone special to inherit and care further for the work of their whole life... or do they...?
Oh, and the RP aspect, of course.

I’m waiting
My idea is that players can select an age or age range in addition to sex when they create a character. If the character is below 15 years old (and sometimes below 20 years old) it will spawn in the home/place of a couple/person willing to adopt or have children. Children below 6 could grow at, say, six times normal speed, and children below 12 at three times normal speed.
I’m eagerly anticipating the implementation of this idea. I would like both to play and to have children! Does anyone know how the implementation is coming along?

I think I've changed my mind on this. There is a purpose for a "family" in Cantr, it's just that most characters are too degenerate to consider the future. How many times have towns fallen apart due to a leader dying with no heir? How many times have characters been frustrated by the lack of free labour?Miri wrote:The main issue now is that one of aspects of Cantr is society simulator, but it lacks the most basic element of every society - family. I don't think such a major change to the basis of Cantr is a good idea at this point.
Characters should start at 18 though. That way newspawns would be very obvious for the first 2 years before they blend into the obscurity in their 20s.
