Look into vehicles
I'd like a "View" button on each vehicle in your location. When clicked you'd get to see some of what is on the vehicle; people, corpses, engines etc. Not resources or tools.

Re: Look into vehicles
We can already see people in vehicles. Seeing corpses but not tools and resources seems strange because they are all on the floor. Engines are not easily visible in motorized vehicles; you have to have a key to open the hood. Besides, the change seems to offer little benefit compared to the years we would have to wait for it to be implemented. That time would be better spent fixing animals and various bugs in the interface.

Re: Look into vehicles
Anything you could see by looking into the window of a car IRL should be visible on a closed vehicle (cars, trucks, and vans). Small tools and resource piles I suppose could be roleplayed as "pushed under the seat", so those don't have to be visible.
Everything on open vehicles (bikes, tandems, skateboards, wooden carts, etc) should be visible.
If you can build a cabin on the boat, only the large tools and some machines should be visible on boats.
If you need metal to build it but you can't put cabins or cargo holds on the boat (darter, sloop, etc.), you should be able to see everything except for small tools.
Other open boats (raft, reed boat, kayak, etc.) should have everything visible.
For land vehicles, an event should appear every time you press the 'View' button.
Example:
"You see a man in his twenties peer into the window of Stationcar."
For ships and boats, an event similar to this should appear:
"You see a woman in her forties peer over the railing into Darter."
Like?

I have to agree with Chris. I think at this point time is better spent on other things and don't think it would be worth the complexity it brings, though I'm open to being told why I'm an idiot.

Re: Look into vehicles
How about showing anything that's above a certain weight limit? Then big piles would be visible, as well as corpses, but not the small stuff. It could also omit exact grams when it comes to resources.

You're not. It's called common sense
If this gets approved anyway, I'm in favor of a lurker event telling who's snooping inside what vehicle to balance things.

Re: Look into vehicles
Why should a Cantr car resemble an IRL car in any way? Most of the time a Cantr car is a box of metal with windows, and engine in the middle and pople standing around it, and a door. The reason why I want to be able to see corpses is because it's one of the most common questions to support, to clear corpses from vehicles. Even if there aren't any. Cantr cars have no hoods to hide their engines. For gameplay reasons I think it would be bad to see tools and resources inside a vehicle.
And the reason I want to be able to see the people in the car is because it would be seriously stupid to have to go to another page to see the people in the car while I'm looking through its window.

I think you're stupid (and Chris too) because being hard to be coded is not a good reason to reject an idea. The idea can just stay in the accepted forum forever.

Once a suggestion is accepted, those of us outside ProgD and GAB have no say in the order of implementation. So this is where we must voice our opinions about what the priorities should be.

Re: Look into vehicles
I don't quite support this idea (at least not the suggested implementation of it) but I do support something similar - I've always thought how vehicles worked on Cantr was a bit slipshod and poorly done and could be made better. For example - all vehicles show all people. Ships can moderate this by building cabins. Cars, etc., that are (arguably) much more expensive cannot. If you add in a way to see everything in a vehicle, you're just nerfing cars even more in this respect, and skewing the "let's do dodgy things" scale even more toward ships.
Unless...?
I'd support a way to see inside a vehicle if there was also a way to add a very small (one person capacity) room to vehicles (like building a cabin) to represent a vehicle's trunk. Resources (or people) could be stuffed in them, and this would not show up if someone just randomly looked into your car - they'd have to unlock the trunk to see what's inside.

Re: Look into vehicles
You can add a cage to a car, that would hide people in the same manner as a cargo/hold.

Re: Look into vehicles
I was under the impression people could see things in a cage/interact with them. But if you can't interact with a cage in a car, that'd probably calm most of my problems.

Re: Look into vehicles
A cage is like a vehicle if it is built in a location (when it comes to visibility). If built in a vehicle it is like a vehicle if you are in the vehicle, but invisible if you are in the location of the vehicle itself.

Re: Look into vehicles
Like boats that are docked to boats. If you have a longboat docked to a raker and you're sitting in the harbour, you can't see if there's anybody in that longboat. Likewise, the people in the longboat can't see anybody who's in the harbour.

Re: Look into vehicles
Thanks, Snickie, that explains it perfectly. One would then surmise that it would be very easy to attach other things.....we already have the sidecar for roadmotorcylces, wouldn't a wagon or cart be easy to attach to cars and such? A cage by another name perhaps, which would not only hide your belongings, but increase storage capacity as well.
