Flint

Postby tcw » Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:07 pm

We could have a new resource of flint. Flint could be required for operating tools and objects that need fire (furnaces, fire pits, etcetera) and could also be used on your own bow-type weapon to increase damage using flaming arrows. One could also using flaming arrows to attempt to set wooden buildings on fire.

I'm sure flaming arrows and other devices for arson have been suggested before.
As to the need for lighting fires to cook... this has to be a "no" as far as I'm concerned, unless it's universally available, in which case what's the point except to slow things down even more.
Flint tipped arrows, perhaps, to give greater damage, and also then steel tipped ones... but as arrows as such don't actually feature, except for the atl atl head, this too seems a doomed suggestion.

We have the stone cleaver which I always picture as being flint anyway, but I've always thought a stone knife that works just like the bone one should be possible to...it is one of the most basic tools in even the most primitive cultures.

Maybe stone spearhead too?

As stone is abundant, and if flint were implemented, it could work. Make it so that as long as you are carrying a 1:1 ratio of stone to flint, then you can start a fire. This can allow for the RP of sale of tinderboxes as well *makes gestures like he's packing a box* put a bit wood along with it... Tah Dah!

it would make the game worse for too much people, with one of my characters I traveled 20 locations and only one of them had stone...

Look at how many few areas are forested. I'd say less than a third of all area in Cantr is forest but most places manage to get wood anyway...
