Non-Percents

Postby Anthony Roberts » Mon May 17, 2004 7:25 pm

Although the percents for damage, protection, and health are all good and well, I think it's a nusience to see "I have 95% health left from that bear attack. It hit me for 19 damage!" - So annoying.

So, I rate that there be words replaced based on the percent. (I'm sure this has been argued before, but I'm reliving it! :D)

So if you have 80% health or more, you're "Healthy". 100% "Perfect Health". 20% or below "Near Death" etc etc.

And for damage, damage should be based off the weapon. So if you used your fist, and hit for 4 damage, it would be a "Perfect Shot" whereas, hitting with a Sabre and getting 4 damage, it would be a "Measly Hit"

Of course, it would make more sense to players if it was general. In other words, hitting for 4 damage with ANY weapon would be "Measly Hit" and 40 would be "Slaughtering" or so.

Lastly, defensive. Your shield protects "Most" of the damage. This should be based on percent of maximum attack (Ie: Say a Bear hits for 30, and your shield blocks 25, that would be most. But if it blocked only 5, it would be "Near Nothing") - or no protection at all... You are hit "Meagerly" from the Bear.

What does everything think? Would be good to impliment?

If it gets accepted, Jos, I'll work on it as my next assignment :)

Oops, f*cked up my vote... Should be a YES YES YES instead of an "undecided"...

You should have had one more choice on the poll..both. I like the RP value thing but I still think numeric values are needed

I've voted 'no'.

I think the numbers leave more freedom for roleplaying. I don't think that the computer should interpret the numbers instead of the players.

Well the numbers are useful I agree... what if there were BOTH then? Have the numbers and the word? Maybe it would encourage people to say "I've just been hit lightly by a bear" instead of "I've been hit for 5!" - Seems logical to me.

I think there should be written values instead of percents. Seeing the numbers go down a bit makes you worry about nothing. Usually my characters with about 70% health complain they're starving, when dying would take several days. It should say something like "you're quite alright".

I think both would be best. Could be something like...

A squirrel gnaws on your ankle for feeble(3%) damage.

Strength: Vigorous(97%)

Yes, and the percent damage should perhaps only be included when it is caused to your own character?

I think the numbers are fine. The percentile is accurate. The percentile is trustworthy. Besides, if you wanted you could RP it anyway. Like if you were on 96% you could say: "I'll come but I am mildly injured. Please lend me some healing food."
Or if you had 10%:"Please good lady! I am mortally wounded! Help me!"
etc etc.
I RP my health, except for recently im Karnon Forest were the Arena rules will be "First to 20% loses!".

I voted no.

Any way I also voted no. I like it the way it is. I also rp my health as is.
