Aim changes towards faster server answers

Postby SCUBA » Tue Mar 07, 2006 3:22 pm

The game will die if we not get the problems with slow serveranswers solved. If individualisated animals is part of this, GO BACK! If not, what can be done?

While I don't think it will truly die, as I am enjoying it a lot and I'm sure others do too, but it is getting rather difficult to advance things when it takes a good 2 minutes to load a page... meaning my idle characters are burning up 10 minutes or so just to start a new project and leave them to work in silence. Nevermind trying to carry on conversations. :)

This is nothing compared to how it used to be, and there is still a game...

but I do agree with SCUBA. If there is one change responsible for this, then kill it... but I highly doubt one change is responsible. I am sure that the ProgD will handle it...

The individualisation of animals will have slowed down the game somewhat, at certain times of the day, but it cannot explain the consistent slowness we are currently experiencing. The ProgD is still searching for possible causes, and working on efficiency improvements in several areas.

I'm afraid it is really very slow tonight. Too much to bear.

As I understand it, there are rather too many new lands--someone said more uninhabited towns than there are currently characters in the game. I'd guess most of these towns are full of animals, yes? Whereas animals in some populated areas have had their numbers drastically culled and seem these days to breed less or else to spend most of their time wandering the roads where they can easily be killed by travelling newspawns with a single punch and to no productive effect. I've seen this over and over again, travelling animals almost all seem damaged/too easy to kill. In other words, we can police the towns to preserve animal herds, but we have no way of policing the roads.

Somehow, somewhere, a cap has to be placed on all of this stealing server juice. Also, please check the stats. A huge number of charries live on grilled, cooked or smoked meat.

My biggest problem is that my minutes are ticking away quickly and I'm not accomplishing much. The speed, or lack thereof, would not be so frustrating if we didn't have to worry about losing precious minutes.

So far, I really do not believe the animals are the problem. When the animals are processed, the server does slow down a little, but I do not think it explains the excruciatingly slow server we've had most of the day today.

I might be wrong, though ;) ...

It seems to be back to normal now.
