Trade rates
I was just wondering, for all the traders out there, what rates do you go by?
for example, Non-tool or tool for trading gathered resources
and when trading resources for items, do you factor in laybor and tools? and if so how do you figure the total cost.
just curious

When i make a new charrie, I roll a dice to decide on it's initial business sense: Good, Meh, or Bad.
With the good ones, I usually have them make a decision based on who they're trading with, usually basing it on the level of population, resource availability, wealth, and for of economic system. Happy go pukey "peace loving communities where everyone works together for the greater good of the town" tend to be offered a worse than average deal, because it's basically free labour for the secretly autocratic totalitarian leader, therefore their stuff should be cheaper. *shrug*

That is something that you need to figure out yourself in character.
That in no way was meant to be mean or rude. That is how this game works. In character stays in character. Out of character stays out of character. The two are not to cross.

I personally like the old (Akypor Forest) Commune ways, if you can find a note about it I would suggest you study it. A couple of mine have and are better for it.

I don't trade to be fair, I trade to make money. The price I quote is whatever I think I can get away with. I don't see this as mean or cruel; if the party I'm trading with didn't value my goods more than the goods they give me, then they wouldn't agree to trade.
So the question of tool rate versus daily rate, or whatnot is beside the point. The value of a resource is what people are willing to pay for it. If nobody wants to buy your platinum, then it might as well be sand.

That's true, but you need some starting point for proposing a deal and some sense of what is too little or too much. Gathering rates and travel time can provide that starting point in terms of a time cost for your goods. You can add or substract from that based on perceived demand, the capabilty of people to get the goods on their own, etc.

Knowing to go to the Wiki to add up labor times is what I would consider player knowledge. Once I get that knowledge as a player, I don't have every character reinvent the wheel. Similarly, I don't have every character be as naive about how to do things as my first character was. I could, as RP, but I don't consider it mandatory for a newspawn to be a complete idiot in terms of how to do things and get things and make deals and function in society. It lets me skip over a learning process that was interesting the first time through but would be tedious to repeat for every new character.

Well, the way to find a starting point for haggling is to estimate how much trouble it would be for the person you're trading with to get what you're offering any other way, and how much trouble it would be for you to get the resources they're offering any other way.
If the resource is not terribly exotic and requires a tool, but not a very exotic tool, then at the tool rate. If the resource requires a machine, but you know that machines are widely available (I've been to many places where there are more drills and quarries than people wanting to use them) then at the machine rate. If you (or your trading partner) absolutely could not get the proper equipment to harvest at the tool or machine rate, then maybe it's time to consider the non-tool rate.
If the resource is terribly exotic, all bets are off.

If its raw resources I'm trading with I just go with 1 day of collecting my stuff is worth somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5 of theres so I'm trading wood for limestone 300 grams of wood is worth like 1300-1550 grams of limestone. Then we start haggling usually.
For raws the machine amounts don't really come inot it cos if you built the machine then you had to trade at the rate the machine gathers you lose one of the advantages to having the machine and if you trade for machine rates then that cuts out the hard-working newspawn whos trying to go somewhere in life

That is in game because it was asked what our characters trade at. That is all I was trying to say. That is in game information/figure it out yourself and use the wiki as a general rule.Kabanahut wrote:I was just wondering, for all the traders out there, what rates do you go by?
The wiki is a nobrainer, but the wiki is a general guidline on trade rates. I have characters that trade goods at far different rates than what the "wiki" states.
You cannot say that you traded 'n resource a' for 'n resource b'.
As said that is in game information and that is what was asked.

That needs to be learned in game not in the forum or wiki. Ingame info said out of game. Now a new player says, I have to negotiate less.
