Sounds like the Barons.

Well... thinking a bit, I suppose that kind of goverment is Mob Gang. They jail anyone not equipped with a crowbar and wait, with the hope of stealing all his possessions. It looks efficient...

You really think that a government with the local capability to make a building, lock, crowbars, etc, is active trying to kill you to get your bone knife?

Wow. Paranoia.

Hey, they don't know he has a bone knife unless he's used it. :P He could be carrying loads of hematite for all they know. ;)

In my mind, we need more totalitarian regimes, dictatorships, etc.
Especialy the aggressive ones.
They keep the game ineresting.

The "blind followers" (as phalynx says  ) are great too...

Or am I the only one that finds those type things more fun than prancing around in rp'ed relationships? *grumbles.....*

To make a gross oversimplification: RP-focused players are more social and therefore more visible on the forums. Players who are more interested in tactics or sociology than in RP generally don't talk as much OOC.

Worst town government is by far in Akypor...its not so much a government as a set of rules that noone fully understands which end up making everyone a lawbreaker. Fortunately they're not really enforced, otherwise it'd be a bigger mess than it is already!

in the case of newspawns, they shouldn't -really- know what to think about that, though, right? Personaly, i find the ones that spawn and go all "This place is too controlled for me" and such are just making those types of governments more and more uninteresting. But that's due to poor rp on the players part. *shrug* (poor rp being my opinion)

Hope that made sense.. I'm tired.

When I have a char spawn in a town where the notes state a long list of complicated, confusing laws and then imply that they will be killed for breakign any one of them, I don't think it's bad RP to have that character leave as soon as possible. And they never say anything like "This place is too controlled", they never say anything because they're terrified of being killed for opening their mouths and only hope that they're not chased downed and killed for breathing wrong or for maybe not following the correct ceromonial ritual before leaving the town.

Your's might not, but face it. Lots of people play it out that way.
Maybe they don't read the forums.. Maybe they do. It doesn't matter.

In the end, I just hate towns that are completely "free". I preffer ones that have some control, and encourage cooperation so things can get done quickly and efficiently.

I look at it just the opposite way, I love spawning in strict governments, I can build awesome and unique characters from it, without them seeming out of place. And it breaks up the monotony of the game to have a character live under strange and dangerous laws. Whether it is by pushing my luck and seeing how far I can bend the laws and get away with it, or working my way up the system and, eventually, exercising my authority, I'd prefer a military law, you only need to be on one persons bad side to die, type of city; over an inherent morality, law by common approval, type city any day.

I’m not saying I hate those goodie-two-shoes cities, I haven't come across a government in Cantr that I really disliked, I just think that the "Oh my Jos! That man just took our notes and insulted someone! Let's all chase him down the road for the sake of common decency!" cities are way too common. It gets boring.

Although I don’t dislike any government, my characters on the other hand, there are a few cities that some of them don't like. *coughdorycough* But it's because they spawned or lived under a different system *coughlawlessfreedomcough* that gave them different values, or because they were cheated, hurt or scared by that city in some way or another *coughnotnecessarilydoryanymorecough*.

I love the Kworian way of life. The biggest issue is when folks can't get permission for limestone, and that is fine by me. Everyone is fed for free, and we all know Kwor is the gemstone of K-Island. :)

Personally, I have not met any government that I do not like...yet.. I guess that's because when I start a character, I really don't have anything planned out, so I simply adapt the development of my character to that environment. So if I found myself in a town with a set structure, I'll RP with that, or if I found myself in a place with no government, then I'll try to RP into that role. But then, once I start, that character will not change it's manner easily.

Actually, I take back my first sentence... :P I don't like towns where there are multiple leaders, and have opposing views on issues.... (like one would say yes to something, only to have everything stopped when the other leader woke up and said otherwise)

did that make any sense? :)

I too found Akypor's system ridiculous, I have no idea what its like now but you have to admit around 4 years ago it was amusing watching the town people fiddling around with ammendments and trying to administer a totally unworkable system whilst the menace of New Xanth was just growing and growing and using their weakness...

Are you talking about 100 day periods? A century is a period of 100 years, and Cantr has only been around for less then 80 years.

DylPickle, let's hope you spawn in Kiii if you're not there yet.

I started thinking, countries IRL have complicated laws, yet a child born there is not expected to study the books of law. At first they are taught by their parents the basic differences of right and wrong, "don't take your buddy's sand shovel, that's naughty", and then they go to school and have social studies. But in Cantr, who would have the stamina to explain the laws and regulations to every newspawn, especially when they spawn in the open without a warning and are perfectly capable of running away before you even realize they're around?
