Riverworld seems to fit Cantr very well...

I like the idea of cantr not being exactly like real life--why bother playing cantr if it was?

It's a society simulator, not a reality simulator.

Nobody in-game knows that 'real' cars have to have fuel.

Why would they in-game?

Couldn't it just be 'one of those things'?

Part of what makes cantr great are the idiosyncrasies, the discrepencies between what we expect and what we get, and so forth.

There was no Time Anomaly in real life, but it's a permanent part of Cantr history, which is awesome.

Thank you. I thought all that was quite obvious, but maybe it was time to write that down.
Maybe a whole guide should be written. 'Tips and Tricks for Perception in the World of Cantr II'.

Something I wanted to add to West's Words of Wisdom: Reality is often used by the staff as a source of inspiration. Objects or concepts (if you even want to distinguish between the two) are taken from the real world to create something interesting in Cantr. However, as soon as the concept is taken out of the real world, it becomes a Cantr concept, and it might immediately develop its own rules.
As time passes, the Cantr object might become more and more different from the real life object with the same name. I consider this also kind of obvious. I don't even think, that it's worth talking about, but West inspired me, so I wrote it down briefly.
May it ease the pain of those who feel uncomfortable having their characters live on the inconsistent Cantr globe. Where 'globe' is the name of a Cantr concept, of course. ;)

Curses, I thought you'd just made a slip and revealed that the Cantr world is a globe.

If you are going to make steel production so realistic, its kind of odd to see cars going around powered by magic.

Could be clockwork vehicles. You give them a good winding and they run for a while...That would explain why they don't need fuel.

Technically they are anti grav devices. The hammering on the iron is what does it. Creates a level of magentic levitation that varies with the mass of the vechicle. The less iron the more likely you are to scrap the ground and go slow. The roads are more like trenches between the towns which is why no steering is needed and you can't just turn right into unexplored terrority.

Just kidding...

*throws a rock at Mr. Goodwin*

Cantr's just quirky like that. I think it's good though that you kind of have to figure out how things work all over again--makes it more dependent on IC learning--at least for the first few chars a player has anyway... *le sigh*

A long, long time ago, before I built a car, I was grabbing every gram of gas I came across to save for the day I owned my own vehicle.

Anyone else do this only to find out we don't need gas & use our feet like the Flintstones to make the cars go Vrooom?
