Where is your avatar from?
I'm curious how other people pick their avatars. Mine is from a painting I did of the protagonist of a video game I'm working on. I usually use my own art for avatars, but I've also been known to be partial to silly pictures of cats in formal wear.

I did get confused for a bit, when you changed the avatar in the middle of a discussion.
Mine is Hunter S Thompson. Carefully cropped to appear cool, used it in most forums.
Somewhat less cool. I respect Hunter's work, introduced to him mostly from Transmetropolitan (awesome comic, read if you haven't), and Fear and Loathing. I use it, simply because it's what I have used for a long time, and I don't feel any need to change it.

Re: Where is your avatar from?
I made mine. I think my logic for doing so was that I was bored, wanted a new avatar, and had recently discovered pixel art.
I would have liked to have made it solving a cube from fully scrambled to completely solved, but that probably would have made the file size a bit big for an avatar. So instead it just repeats the move for the final step, over and over.

Oh, neat. And yes, I changed it in the middle of a discussion because I noticed someone else had a picture of a cat with a hat and a monocle. It's like showing up to a party in the same dress as someone else, right?

Oldschool Magic: The Gathering card art, "Serra Angel". Because I'm a nerd.

But imagine if we all changed our avatars to cats with a hat and a monocle. Now that would be some party! (It would also make for a really weird forum.)
Mine is Tomoe Ame from the Usagi Yojimbo comics. Like me, she is strong, smart, and Asian.
Also, she knows kung-fu.

My avatars vary depending on where they are used. For example, you won't see me with this avatar in a Star Wars game. It would probably be a picture of a Zabrak (Darth Maul).
As for my current avatar, anyway, I found it on Google by googling 'young elven prince'. I've always been a fan of elves.

Mine is a picture that a friend took of me while we were in Canada with my college's tour choir. We found the cutest little coffee shop! I think it's a pretty silly picture.

Mine, is a picture of myself. Was actually caught off guard by a friend. Figured it couldn't hurt.

Mine is a picture a friend sent me saying "you are going to like this."
I did. But I'm afraid I cannot thank the author because I don't know who is.
It was the first nice picture I found in my computer when I made my forum account and, well, after all these years, why change it?

Darker than Black, my favourite anime.
I turned it green before I knew of Cantr in an attempt to improve the contrast, and it seems fitting ^_^ Often I use the main character instead but I think between the colour and the size limitations of the board it wasn't a tricky choice.

I like boats
This seemed like quite a good picture, not too different from my old one.
Maybe I'll get a new one though...

It's the most flattering picture of myself that I could find.
