Art, handicrafts, monuments, galeries
This is a sugestion from polish forum, which have quite big acceptance.
It's about all the art which can be produced - carved, sculptured etc.:
Every work (project) would be based on another skill "sense of art" and final result (description) would be randomly generated based of skill of maker. For example:
Project finished: You have done an ugly stone figurine "cat"
Project finished: You have done beautifull bronze momument "king Barbarossa"
This solution would create new profession in Cantr - people of Art.
And production would diverse from machine/tool making and clothing.
Example projects:
Handicrafts (small art) - very cheap and easy to be made
• figurines
• sculptures
Meterials: wood, stone, iron, bronze, marble, steel, bones etc. Some tool would be needed too
Can be made as a typical tool, can detoriate and be traded. The only difference is that every work would be named in the beggining.
Monuments (big art) - very expensive and hard to be made
• monuments
• colossuses
Meterials: wood, stone, iron, bronze, marble, steel etc. Some tools would be needed too
Monuments can be made as landmark and behave like landmark.
Collosus would work as lighthouse - would be visible from distant places
Galeries
Can act as a building but, should be possibibility to lock presented objects to avoid picking them up.

I... like it.
A bit unsure about the skill actually affecting the final result. (It doesn't for any other skill except the fighting ones.)
I especially like the colossus, but it shouldn't be visible from as far as the actual lighthouse, because when building amnesia is implemented and the colossus still has a description, it would make them better. Care is needed.
The gallery building seems like an overly complicated solution. How about a display case - some kind of transparent container that you can put items in? As a bonus, that would be useful for other businesses.
Oh, and bone figurines for the neanderthal societies. Then they can make something other than maps.

monuments , colossuses appear to have a use...I have noticed in Cantr, if it doesn't have a use... it most probably won't be wanted. Clothing is a prime example. Until a function is created for clothing, it is not necessary...and it is hard to find those who want it. I think art would be great, but like the diamond encrusted sabre.. it is only for show and very few will desire it.

If people actually want them we can add them, but I only seem to hear people bitching about stuff not being functional or horribly out of balance, waste of resources, pointless, waste of time, etc etc usw.
How many people will actually build this type of stuff if we do add it?

Wichita - You've spent too long listeningto the wrong people
Take clothes - no intrinsic functional value in Cantr (yet) but worn by many characters (51% of those aged 22 or more , 78% of 30yr old +) . I have no doubt people will build art/craft works as well as all those musical instruments ProgD wrote the code for. These don't have to have function (thats why they are art works) - As to whether they are a waste of resources and time - that should be left in game
I like this idea - we have had other ideas for artistic works and in general this one feels good to me .
Of course if RD don't design them then no one is going to build them

I like this also.
I like the idea of having small named objects, very useful for rp. I can see some religions getting some sacred objects and some rich characters and towns having celebrated works.
Mmm, I'm going to have a search to see if thers a similar suggestion for a nameable food stuff. I want to have a flim flam man selling cure alls for the sneezes. It'd be good to rename popcorn as Dr. Newspawns anti sneeze balls.

Great idea, items that may in fact be useless, but can be given a meaning in game. A new player wouldn't know this so it gets better as you go along. Maybe we can expand on this, these are items made by chars so it remains straightforward.
Everything in cantr i can think off has logic to it except sometimes the chars
Chars always get material to make an item which serves to an end. But also inexplicable items with no effect or an unknown effect could be generated by cantr. If i compare teh developmment of chars with humans, ie a phenomenon like thunder, a geiser, the difference between the speeds of light and sound etc. All inexplicable, for the cavemen on earth as well as the newspawn on cantr. (in cantr?) So many questions and theories can arise, how does it come about, is it dangerous, can i use it, can i sabotage the user?

There have been loads of suggestions for statues and the like - this would be a good idea.
A 'landmark' is already coded - shouldn't it be easy to create something which has the same landmark functions - but is called a 'monument' and takes, say, 10k stone?
