Dorian Mountains East AKA EL Dorado

Postby Borat » Fri Jan 13, 2006 5:36 pm

This location is one of very few that has gold as a resource. Chars come to collect gold, and then have to stand around forever to even start digging. I count just FOUR! resource gathering places, can this be increased?

The definitions of economics is the satisfying of infinite human wants with goods and services produced out of finite resources to the maximum. To me, this sounds like an in game problem, which should be solved in character.

It's one of Cantr's better game mechanic influences on actually creating a society simulator.

I think that the limited gathering slots are good for Cantr. Although it makes for a lot of excess talk and arguing, that's not all bad. It gives more in game reasons for governments and laws, and it promotes economy.

Exactly! I'm still waiting for people to start killing for gathering spots in Pok Harbor, that would make all the time spent scrolling through the chat room, as I have come to call Pok Harbor, less tedious.

Wasn't there a guideline that there should be one gathering spot for every three characters on a location?

I think that was for the one-time resource slot assignment when it was newly implemented. It doesn't change now based on population.

Well, then, what's the use of trying to build larger towns if the gathering spots will never be adjusted based on population size?

I assumed that if a town outgrew its assigned slots, you could petition to have the slots adjusted. If this isn't true then two of my charrie's long term goals are unattainable.

Bah. Cancel people's repeats out from under them. Build a shack or mud hut and drag them off just to get at the slots. Saber.

Solve it in game. Or ... Go elsewhere. There are other places with gold. Other lands, other spots on the same land.
Reality was never my strong point.

I made this point elsewhere, and got shouted down.

I guess the official line is "go somewhere else". :P When the grid system gets implemented (thus probably generating more places with gold) this will actually work too. ;)

They will not be automatically adjusted based on population size .
The intention has been to have land development/clearance type projects similar to road improvement, where the result is an additional resource slot , with an upper limit based on terrain type. Essentially an in-game method of helping a town grow.

These currently still require a small amount of programming and input from resources in terms of resource/time requirements

The initial adjustments were to represent previous development prior to the introduction of resource slots and we used population size as an indicator.

Currently there are no locations anywhere in Cantr where the total population is more than 3 time the number of resource slots available.

Really, I think it's way cool that it's limited. Now if only you had mentioned there actually is a source of gold, and not just a whorehouse, my character would have gone there in a flash. I think.

Oh that land development idea seems perfect.
