Awards and making chars have "ideas"
Historical figures in cantr should become easier to recognise, just like real historical figures. There should be unique parts belonging only to cantr's heroes. For example, if you believe your character is important enough to be recognised they can send in a letter about their character, then the department would make a certain object that the char can make. These unique items wouldn't have any real specific abilities, they might even be as good as normal items, but it adds to the role playing. Here's an example, say there's a character called Ceradus (randomly generating myself a name) who's the high priest of some popular religion that, say, worships snakes. Now one day, that character might have an "idea" (a note from cantr saying that they can make a unique item) of making a diamond staff. Then that char would make the staff out of the necessary resources and then under the clothing button when you click on the char's name:
-A staff made completely out of diamond with the top in the shape of a cobra's head.
Later in life, this char would die or give away his staff, that would make it interesting. Since it's a artifact of this religion it could cause anything, wars could be started to gain this useless but role playable object. But we need some artifacts, most probably only clothing artifacts. Things that distinguish our heroes in the game, if they are important enough.

No, they probably wouldn't take too long to implement in terms of adding it to the database
But - imagine how many people would e-mail in with the item they want to make. There are already more furntiure and clothing suggestions on this forum than have been implemented.
If it was limited to 'famous' or 'important' characters - that would reduce the workload - but then who has the final word as to which characters get to have their own individual items? Working out who gets their tiem and who doesn't would also take time...
Staff members don't know every character, they can only go by what the player tells them - which could be made up or embellished.
Nice idea, but it seems unworkable...

AGAIN WE HAVE INVINTING!!!!
Alright... as i have said before, when debaiting about implumenting, It is compleatly posible to do this, in a compleatly automated fation.
You click on an object to make it.. lets say.. a gold necklace, and then you would have these options.
1: add a pendant, of wick you would be able to choos different recourses to add onto this necklace. and then you can choos how many pendants to add, or wich size these pendants will be.
2: add a figure. Such as.. the figure of a man, or animal, and then you will be able to choos what this figure will be made out of, and it's size. And of course.. it would become a pendant.. becous there is no way to attach this figure any other way.
3: Change shape. You could change the shape of the golden necklace to be "a goldan necklace made with two dragons making a circle around the werer's neck" Or somthing of the sort.
These choises would be compleatly automated, but would be a bit hard to implement.

It's really more of a knee-jerk reaction than a reasoned objection, but I don't like this because it feels too much like the swords-and-sorcery element that we've always fought to keep out of Cantr, and I'm pretty sure you're going to get a lot of flaming from those defenders of the faith. Consider me an advance guard.
HF's objection is another good one.

H'f's objection was compleatly distroyed, EGXACTLY how his objection's were distroyed by my ideas in the invintion thread post i recently made.
The email would be compleatly automated. With just buttons to push, and new discription's to add. EASALY IMPLEMENTABLE!!!

Pie, you posted the same thing in two different threads. Since it fits better in the other (http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=124866#124866), I've responded to it there. I don't see any bearing on the suggestion being discussed here, and it certainly doesn't address HF's concerns at all.
I don't care how much the e-mail process is automated; there's still going to be a human in the loop with decision-making power. We have limited manpower; if we had enough people that we could sort through dozens or hundreds of "invention" or "special item" requests every day, we would have gotten through the accepted suggestions by now, among things.

STRONGLY against this idea. There would be bombardments of emails from players all the time, there would be little restriction to stop players from sending emails. What the hey, I'll send one to try my luck.
AND ANOTHER THING:
Who's to judge who's famous in Cantr and who's not?
Many of my characters are 'silent' heroes. Hey, I want a staff for each of them!
Doesn't work at all.

To become a historical and famous character in cantr, why not roleplay your diamond sceptre. Wave it over the heads of your subjects to bless them now and then, it would be much more effective than keeping an object in your inventory and be a silent and non-roleplaying celebrity.
I also have to agree with a couple of the above posters, that this seems very difficult to implement in a fair way without recruiting some 20 ppl to go through and judge applications for artifacts.

Fame's a relative thing anyways.
For instance, if you measured it like http://www.cantr.net/e107/content.php?article.45, I've got characters in the first, fifth, and tenth spot. I'm pretty sure it's pretty hard or rare for certain things to be made in Cantr anyhow, and those things could be used.

I think Flak Jacket's idea from the "Religion" thread would be a way of implementing this...
that way the most famous (and probably richest) chars could make their "large diamond/gold object" which could be roleplayed (or dynamically named...although that might drag on the bandwidth after everyone has made 50 objects for themself) to be this staff.

Yeah, but with the implementation of this, soon there will be drop down menus for people to elect governments, and leaders to 'click on' what government they want, and then, it'll all be control-based.
No. Let's keep Cantr in the hands of the Players, no implementations by staff. (of course, besides land and resources, heh)
