New Fuel?

Postby AngelSpice » Fri Sep 30, 2005 2:47 am

I was wondering what to do with all the meat and bones cluttering up my charries buildings and started googling. I found 'Meat and Bone Meal' as an alternative biofuel. In real life, it sounds like there's some problems with the ash and how it clogs up the furnaces, but we wouldn't have to worry about that in Cantr.

Here's an entry from the Wikipedia:

Meat and bone meal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Meat & bone mealMeat and bone meal (MBM) is a by-product of the rendering industry. It is typically about 50% protein, 35% ash, 8-12% fat, and 4-7% moisture. It is primarily used in the formulation of animal feed to improve the amino acid profile of the feed. Feeding of MBM to cattle is thought to have been responsible for the spread of BSE. In most parts of the world, MBM is no longer allowed in feed for ruminant animals. However, in some areas, including the US, MBM is still used to feed monogastric animals.

In Europe, some MBM is used as ingredients in petfood but the vast majority is now used as a fossil-fuel replacement for renewable energy generation, as a fuel in cement kilns, landfilling or incineration.

Meat and bone meal has around two thirds the energy value of fossil fuels such as coal and is carbon neutral; the UK in particular widely uses meat and bone meal for the generation of renewable electricity.

Meat and bone meal is increasingly used in cement kilns as an environmentally sustainable replacement for coal.

I was thinking maybe make the mortar and pestles and millstones and grinders able to grind a combination of raw meat and large and small bones to make a Bone Meal Mixture that could then be used as a fuel. I'd suggest it could be used in firepits and fireplaces to cook food and it looks like it could even be another alternative for coal.

What do you think?

I like this one, it allows places to use some of those useless materials around, however I don't think it should replace coal, suddenly all of the coal cities would become ghost towns, as coal would lose all of its value, maybe it could just be used as a fuel, allowing places with just animal products to provide a small amount of their own food.
