Gallows

Postby Solfius » Sat Oct 18, 2003 11:25 am

I forgot the actual name, but wouldn't a machine or object to hang people on be cool?

you could drag them onto it and then activate the thing so they hang (think of a platform with a trapdoor, put a noose around the person neck, unlatch the trapdoor and watch the human pendulam).

It could kill instanlty, or apply damage to a person until dead, a bit each hour? Once someone is heanging there could be the option to cut them free.

Just a random thought

Wow, I forgot what the platform is named too. Anyways, the death of the person being hanged would depend on how many knots are tied into a noose. I think 9 or more knots in a noose is strong enough to break the person's neck and kill them instantly. Back in the Old West, some people use to put in less than 9 (either purposely or they didn't know better) and would watch the person choke to death instead (and if they were lucky, someone could come along and free them before this happened).

Maybe whether the person dies instantly or not would depend on how many knots were tied into the noose. Yes, this idea would be good though I would really like to see some restraints added into the game first (handcuffs, rope to tie people up, chains for the same, shackles etc...). :D

Yeah, restraining implements would be prefferable to have first.

Hmm, what about a whip?

Handcuffs, straitjackets, and whips. Oh my!

gallows

as in "sent to the gallows by the hanging judge"
or "building the gallows before the trial".

The tradition was if they lived, they were set free.

Most places, the tradition was if they lived, they tried again until they killed them.

Yes, the gallows, but the knots (more specifily the loops made before the knot is tied, usually 13) isn't what decided how fast they died, that was decided by how far they dropped, it was all figured out, the heavier a person is the less they have to drop to snap their neck (assuming the knot was placed correctly at the side of their neck to break it, and assuming they weren't dropped to far and their head popped off, and assuming they weren't dropped far enough and choked to death, and assuming the rope didn't break), but some I also think that some means of restrant such as handcuffs, ropes to tied someone up with, etc should come first.

I remember a discussion on the Yahoo! boards about slaverly...long long ago. It was a fun one, as I recall.

if you could cut them free it would make an incredible torture device!
