In order to make soldier more of a profession, and less of just a... well armed worker, the battle system should be changed.
Cantrians only have 2 hands, to my knowledge. They should be able to hold one weapon, and one shield, with perhaps a wield button.
But if they are wielding things, they shouldn't be able to work on projects. This would make the element of suprise more of a factor in battles, and I think it could really spice things up.
Any thoughts?

Hmm... *looks suspicious* This seems like a development of my idea in the weapons and protection thread...
Anyway, I think it might be a good idea. Not sure about its repercusions though. I'm assuming you can;t work and hold a shield? It could have a disasterous affect unless something such as walled cities is brought in. It could lead to the complete absence of any kind of development.
Am I right in my interpretation of ... the... idea?

Because of the nature of cantr, I really don't think this is a good idea at all.
In a game where people spend most of their time standing mindlessly, strengthening the 'element of surprise' seems like a truely abysmal move.
IRL, it's true that a peasant in the field would generally be helpless prey for a raider. It's also true, however, that if that peasant kept arms with him, he would be able to at least try to defend himself. In cantr with wielding, by the time he wakes and notices that the bandit's turned up, he'll be doomed, if not dead.
