Houston we have a problem

Postby mrsE » Wed Dec 15, 2004 11:41 am

.. in the Swedish parts. There are too many spawning places and too few players and the few players that join get fed up because they spawn in a desolate place and never understand what the game is about.

I adressed this in the "Spice up the Swedish area"-topic.
Allthough we have different perspectives I think we are talking about the same problem...

Spawn where the people are

Postby Just A Bill » Mon Dec 20, 2004 5:22 am

I have a suggestion to fix this. Whenever a new spawn is created, take a list of all those with the same language as the new spawn, pick one of them at random, and place the new spawn there. This way there would be more new spawns in more populated areas.

It would also allow migrations to take place over time. ie this was once populated by group A, but they moved away and group b came in. You might want to also make sure there is a minimum number of language speakers in the area where the new spawn is.

This would make the spawning more closely resemble people having children... I know I don't want to get into the children arguement, but implementing new spawns this way would simulate children more closely.

this is essentially how it works already for the larger language groups. the probablility of a new spawn of one of those languages spawning in any given location is proportional to the number of characters of that language who have been there during the last 12 hours. the smaller language groups have spawn points. that is, characters are spawned in one of several designated start locations with equal probability. i know english and dutch have the people centric spawning. i don't which category swedish falls into. i'd assume it's spawn points based on the thread...

Spawn Points

So potentially someone english could spawn in what was once the spawn point for another group. Cool
