Make old into new

Postby RocMat1 » Wed Dec 01, 2004 2:50 am

I want to be able to see things such as, if you have a wooden shield you should be able to somehow use that wood, perhaps it will not be 100% worth what you used on it, but use most of the wood for another project.

swords into plowshares....

i like the idea. it goes along with item destruction, project cancelling and item deterioration. i think all 4 would be important additions.

I don't particularly care for this idea....except perhaps for taking apart buildings, since the stone or wood is probably still in large chunks or planks...but if you make a shield or a pair of wood knitting needles, could it really be refashioned into a bow or a shovel handle?
I think, therefore I think I am, I think

It could create a new resource called "recycled X", only possible to be used on certain projects. But perhaps that would be hard to program...?

This sounds like a very nice idea for prisoners... if towns are so unreasonable as to lock them in a building with lots of machines or other objects, they could decide to demolish those or at least do some damage to them and perhaps even manage to create some lockpicks out of the rubble. ;-)

It'd be very cool. Like macgyver stuff.

Yes, it could be ground for some really spectacular RP moments :)

Well?

Postby RocMat1 » Sat Jul 23, 2005 8:48 pm

Well this idea seemed good.. sorry for the bump but I dont see why this idea hasnt been accepted yet :D Also I think that it should be like a project and you dont get any of the resources till it is totally done... and maybe like 50% of the reources you can get back I dont know

For now, with all the other changes. I do not agree with this alteration. Essentially, is a good idea to be able to recycle. However, it causes too many problems in terms of trouble makers demolishing entire buildings. I don't like it, makes it so that I'd have to imprison thieves in buildings with like 5 rooms to keep them in there for their entire sentence.

As a compromise, maybe only the person who made the item should be able to recycle it.

Bizzare, i was thinking of this very idea earlier.. on of my charries has 8kg of meat and the town spit was finally free when she realises Uh oh, she has no wood! it did run across my mind.. hang on, i have a spare wooden shield, cant i just burn that? To demolish a house or a large metal machine with your bear hands would be quite a task.. you'd need special tools.. sledgehammer perhaps? screwdriver maybe?

sledge hammer is probably enough for wooden things, but for meta, youl need a smelter.

I assume wepaons, shields, tools and the like can be used on projects like semi-finished items can? How about a machine called 'Reclycler' or even just a list of 'recycling' projects under the build menu - one for each item in the game - the result would be a small amount of each resource used in making it initially - wouldn;t work for vehicles or buildings - but it'd be something, and might be possible to prgram (with time?)

problem is - if it was easy, a thief could just ruin everything by starting 'recycling' projects for everything they grab - so maybe a machine to do it would be best?
Whoever you vote for.

I like the need for a machine, so it isn't easy for someone to recycle important things when they shouldn't. I also like the idea of needing a sledgehammer to smash down buildings......a visible tool that one would be able to see if prisoners were holding one, just like the crowbar with locks.
