Out with Powell, in with Rice

Postby Pirog » Wed Nov 17, 2004 7:52 am

So, how you you people feel about Rice replacing Powell as secretary of state?

From an equalist perspective I think it is great that a black woman gets picked for such an important political position, but I'm not so sure I like her on a personal level.

I think Colin Powell was the best American politician I have ever seen, and the one resonable man in possé of war crazed hawks Bush keeps around him. From what I know of Rice (and that isn't very much to be honest) I doubt that she will be as outspoken and peaceful as Powell was.

I fear that American foreign policy will be even more aggressive during the coming four years...and that feels like it would pretty much spell doom for the rest of the world. Then again I might be wrong. (I sure hope so)

It would be really cool if Rice did a great job and eventually became president though. A black female president...if it turned out she was gay too the planet might just explode

Rice is neocon in all the sense. So I'm not sure if this a good move or not.

Powell on the other hand wants to go back into private life. It is really too bad because he really is one of the best examples of a moderate conservative in the public life.

There are currently rumors going around that Powell might be nominated as a candidate for the Supreme Court in the coming years since a number of Supreme Court will be retiring in the next few years. I think Powell would make an excellent choice in this regard.

I think he was pretty much forced out of his position, but that is of course only a theory.

That would be good indeed.
