Can you use paper labels?

Yes, but paper labels are meant to label flasks and bottles. Using them to customize tools is an exploit itself. It'd be better to make custom description for the tools (and machines) in normal and regular way.

Labels shouldn't work, actually. What tool have you seen it work on?

I've used a label to describe a 'chest' None of the tools worked.

By the way, back when *wiro was on staff, there was this whole thread on requesting custom descriptions.

Yeah, found them in the database, I recon we'll look into fixing them to use regular tools instead

Are other tools and machines going to allow custom descriptions?

I would love to customise certain machines as well - looms and spindles, for starters.
I'm just a fan of customisation across the board I think it gives the game more flavour.

Re: Custom description for tools and machines
I think over time we're striving to add descriptions to anything where there's no good reason not to add it?
I know in the past RD looked into a way to add describing by default to everything but that's not as easy.

This has been fixed for the items that used labels wrongly, and accepted (in progress) for (almost) all other things.
