Diversification of alumina refining fuels

Postby Nakranoth » Tue Jun 26, 2007 8:04 am

I'm not really sure why, but as of now, bauxite is only refinable to alumina using coal as a fuel, however, refining alumina to aluminum is possible using gas or charcoal as well. So, to make aluminum a more readily accessable material, I propose that we add gas and charcoal varieties to the first step of productions.

That should be fine for alumina. Moved to Accepted.

I am not so certain about charcoal, but propane seems reasonable.

It can be required more charcoal than coal, in terms of days of work (so less efficient), in order to get the needed heat, and the refinning can be slower (so less efficient).

aluminium production requires big amounts of energy, so i dont think charcoal will work

Aluminum is already producable using charcoal in the smelting furnace. This is about refining Bauxite to Alumina.

Also, I just did a bit of looking into Aluminium productions IRL, and honestly, Cantrian Aluminum is much easier to make for balance reasons. Because honestly, I don't expect to see electrolysis in game... pretty much ever.

refining alumina is a part of aluminium production. i meant refining bauxite to alumina could be fueled by coal and propane, but not charcoar

I agree. Coal and propane.
