Telescope
It has probally already been mentioned but...
For a near distance down a trail or out to lake or sea:
w/o telescope - be able to see the number of people
w/ telescope - be able to recognize individuals (Areis! Run for your lives!)
For a slightly farther distance down a trail or out to lake or sea:
w/o telescope - be able to see dust kicked up on a path (you can already see boats on the graphic)
w/ telescope - be able to see the number of people
For a slightly farther distance down a trail or out to lake or sea:
w/o telescope - nothing
w/ telescope - be able to see dust kicked up on a path (you can already see boats on the graphic)

w/ telescope - nothing
may require the use of a tower

It would indeed, giving thought to the idea of telescopes and grids, perhaps with a telescope you can see what generally goes on in the immediate surrounding squares, like people coming and going, and picking things up etc.
Then you can concentrate on a particular square and you can see everythign there, what people are doing, etc.

I think that with the grid system, you should be able to see what happens in your grid square and the adjacent ones, hear normal speech within your square, implement a yelling command so you can make yourself heard in the surrounding areas, and be able to hit people in the surrounding squares with ranged weapons like bows or slingshots. Just a thought.

Increased visibility from tall structures
Ok, I searched and didn't see this anywhere, but I was thinking, maybe when you walk inside a lighthouse it could have a similar effect to picking up a telescope, you can see more of the land and sea around, just don't make the range as large as that of the telescope. And to further add to this idea...maybe if you were to enter the lighthouse WITH a telescope, then your visibility range would be the combined amount of both the telescope AND the lighthouse. Thoughts?

Re: Lighthouse Idea
I like! Maybe as binoculars if you have no vision increasing equipment, and as you say, add to that range + the vision increasing item if you have it.

Re: Lighthouse Idea
This would be cool, but if there was such an effect available for buildings, it should be cool if things like crow's nests and observation towers could be implemented. They have been discussed in the past and I think it was the lack of programming that was holding it back.

Oooh, a crow's nest would be great for some of the larger ships, that would support it!

I think it would also be neat if there was a slight chance of slipping as you're climbing up or down. Later if we get drunkenness, that would increase the chance of stumbling. Also if you were wounded or hungry, you'd be more likely to slip. Damage would be random but not deadly unless you were already seriously injured.

Re: Lighthouse Idea
awesome idea, side note, i'm kinda suprised that you see no map on location when standing on a harbour or landing stage.

Re: Lighthouse Idea
That is simply because you are inside a building, and buildings doesn't have a map overview. It's in that case even more curious how you don't get map overview at all from a lighthouse.
