Highlighting or Lowlighting *s

Postby madfish » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:22 pm

Considering everybody uses asterisks (*) to give description I thought maybe the code could be changed to make it easier to read.

Something like...

Which in my opinion is easier to read than...

You could just parse the string for * when you pull it from the database and enclose it in <font> tags.

This looks like a pretty good idea. Since were probably going to have some kind of filter sooner or later this is something that could be included.

In the Hispanic zone they use -emote-, something many in the English zone use to empathize text. How do the Russian, Chinese, Turkish, Lithuanian, ..., do it? I might have been dreaming, but I believe I saw someone //emote// too.

I like the idea, but don't think about taking out the *s, please! I associate them with Cantr now and hate how they're taken out when I try to emote on Facebook chat and FTO.

My eyes are trained to seek out emote symbols. I think text coloration should be reserved for other things.

#1 Not everyone uses *
#2 This can be done client side if you use the greasemonkey script. It works in chrome and firefox i believe. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18625

Thanks.

Colour is named on line 23 by the way. I edited it because the orange was confusing.

I've been using a greesemonkeys script that does something like that, just instead of downlighting I made it bold the *s (while keeping the *s themselves visible). I stopped it only because my little baby didn't like having monkey on when she had to display long lists of activities.

I'm against hardcoding it into Cantr interface, just because I'm against hardcoding things that don't have to be hardcoded, and thus forcing 'the one and only one right way' of anything on players. Most of us know FTO, right...?
