100 grams of cotton a day? Come on! That's just ridiculous... is it possibly for the RD to look into this? If Cantr is supposed to even have a slight chance of getting a proper clothing market set up, the gathering rate of cotton has to be sped up. Same story with silk.
And don't go "But else no one will use hemp anymore" on me, as that's the same thing in real life. It starts with basic clothes, then slowly becomes better (cotton) untill it ends with luxury clothes (silk). Besides, areas that only have hemp will have to use that. It's the way it works. Areas with silk will have to use silk, but if it takes one full day to get 75 grams of some stupid coccoons, then no one's going to gather it as there's no point in making clothes anyway.
I'd say make the rates for cotton and silk coccoons equal to hemp, and possibly make it possible to fasten the rate of gathering with tools or even machines.

I might agree with an accelerated gathering rate -if- clothing deteriorated, but as it stands, silk is the ultimate luxury item. It's low gathering rate is the only thing that keeps it from being common. I've seen many people with silk and cotton clothes, so your argument that no one's gathering it is inaccurate. If anything, the low gathering rates make hemp more valuable for things like rope.

I know this is an old thread, but just bumping it to mention that just the other day I saw someone trading a fairly large quantity of iron for hemp cloth. I did quit playing awhile so maybe this isn't news to anyone else, but my mind still boggled. Of course the biggest hurdle for sails is the medium log that still requires a bunch of iron and steel, but it's still nice to see that a previously fairly useless resource can be processed without too much trouble into something with actual value now.

Hemp cloth is very useful for making sailcloth...

Since sails became popular hemp is a valued resource. It was even before that to some extent, as rope for wells, quarries and hoists.
Rates won't be changed anytime soon. As Doug says, not until clothes deteriorate. If you do some research you'll find that even now with modern equipment hemp is wildly more efficient than cotton.
