When people click on your egg, it will mature and when it has gotten enough views, it will hatch. If it has too many views and not enough unique views or clicks, it will get sick and must be hidden. That is to avoid cheating. The hatchling will grow wings when it's close to maturing and then it will become an adult dragon. Adults can no longer die.
Eggs and hatchlings can be abandoned so that they can be adopted by other people. Adult dragons can be released but then they go to a place called the wilderness and they can't be adopted by anyone because they can look after themselves.

Does that mean somebody could kill a dragon by flooding it with page requests?

I think so. Well, when a dragon is in a fog cloud, it can still be accessed by the owner and if it's an egg, it can crack more but it can't hatch while it's in a cloud, and when it's a hatchling, it can grow wings but cannot mature until it's out of the cloud. I'm not sure what defines when it's ready to come out of the fog cloud.
Edit: Hah, got one I haven't had before.

Re: Dragon cave
My hatchling has only 12 hours left or it dies, so make sure to click on it. It's a geode dragon and it was difficult to get one of those. One of my hatchlings already died when the forums were down.
