Things that motivate you

Postby Leo Luncid » Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:54 pm

Ever came across something that really motivated you? Touched your heart? Changed the way you think, even if only for a little while? Reached out to you? Made you smile? Made you cry? Made you finally feel something?

I did. It always reminds me that no matter what I'm always pushing myself through, I can always take a step back and enjoy something away from reality.

Share yours, whether they're something on the Internet, something you've read, or something you've experienced. As long as it gave a message that really cemented into your mind.
Notice how weak and petty we are / In the grand fixture we come afar / Hey we can't help it / No denying the prerequisite for love / Your very existence / You're the source of my substenance / Slow down take your time and feel the / Flow

When I noticed most of my "friends" aren't really my friends. Almost made me cry.

Oh, and some Touhou music. Hmm, oh yeah!

Music can really unlock my emotions.
I love epic soundtracks from films and things.

Also, the selfless acts of others usually forces me to step back and take a look at everything. Whether in books, films, games or in real life.

Oh, and the game Dreamfall/The Longest Journey.

lol yea so this is gonna sound pathetic and corny...but I thing the one thing that has had the most profound affect on me has been my girlfriend. I've completely changed my life since I met her, and she got me out of a really horrible depression. Because of her I stopped smoking and [mostly] stopped drinking. [i still have the occasional drink on holidays and family events] she's also done loads more for me but some of it is too personal to me to list.....no not sexual shit >__> I know someone will think that.

My motivation is in my sig.
Though in particular this one strikes many personal chords in the music and lyrics.

Everyone does have that one moment that you can call up right away, I've had many inspiring moments, and people in my life (for those of you who know about my mothers history, and current lifem you'll know she's my major inspiration. Anyways I've piicked one thing I remember the clearest.

For three years I ran a program called "Out of The Cold" every sunday. For those who don't know what that is, its a soup kitchen. I worked it for a few sundays before I took over, but the second day was the most inspirational.

I was behind the counter in the kitchen, and was serving a chili plate at the window. I was always surprised by the range and looks of people in there. I turned to grab a new serving, and when I turned, staring me in the face with a meek smile was a girl I attended high school with. We had hung out before, and I always admired her looks, and thrifty style, and never thought she would be disadvantaged at all.

As I handed her a plate, she looked me in the eye and said "Thank you Amber." There was a moment where we looked at each other, and she waited for my brain to analyze what was happening before me. Once it clicked, I returned the smile, and said "No, thank you." And I know as she walked away with a huge grin that she understood.

I've never placed myself above others, but in that moment I had experienced a myriad of emotions, and I was humbled. You are always surprised by what you see in there, but it hits home when its someone you know.

An hour or so later, as she finished her meal, I broke the barrier of the kitchen that day when I became the first teenager to ever walk out the door into the eating area. I walked to her table, I sat down, and I hugged my friend, a long hug, with no words, and then we went our separate ways. Its now requirement in the kitchen for teenagers doing their service to spend visiting time in the eating area.

Years later my friend told me that she was glad it had been me behind that counter, out of everyone we knew. We're still friends to this day. She's a teacher now, in an elementary school, and has overcome her disadvantages. That day inspired us both, as it humbled me, and re-awakened her faith in mankind. It goes to show that little to no words are sometimes the best words.

I get motivated when someone says I'm good at something and I believe them.

I can also get motivated by music, like the theme song to JAG, and some songs by Manowar such as Courage and Carry On.

I also sort of got motivated by Disney's Mulan, since it teaches you to respect your elders even though sometimes you might have to hide things from them in order to do something that matters.

Dudel repeats his Dudeisms and talks to those he cares about for motivation. To be honest, not much can/does motivate me. Once my brain sees something as pointless or futile, I don't continue.

People thinking I can't do something. That sure as hell motivates me, because it's annoying when people think I'm an incompetent just because I act so laissez-faire. Especially my dad. He always says, if I do anything other than what I said, "Always so predictable." Infuriating.
